The Kapamilya series follows a group of female helpers employed at a household in a subdivision.
Manilyn Reynes is among those local actors who have flexibly gone from one TV network to another to star TV shows and dramas. The actress has appeared in different dramas and variety shows on ABS-CBN, GMA Network, TV5, among others. She first appeared in an ABS-CBN show in 1989 when Eat Bulaga was still airing on ABS-CBN. The program left the Kapamilya network in 1995 and has since been airing on GMA Network. Reynes, on the other hand, remained with ABS-CN, where she hosted the noon-time show, ‘Sang Linggo nAPO Sila, until 1998. During these years, she also appeared on GMA Network, via the sitcom, ‘Okay Ka Fairy Ko, and on IBC, via the informative program, Hapi Kung Healthy.
In 2004, she returned to doing teleseryes via the afternoon series, Maid in Heaven. The series has fantasy and comedy elements and was part of ABS-CBN’s afternoon line-up, which also the Sarah Geronimo-starred, Sarah: The Teen Princess, and the Sandara Park-hosted Asian romance anthology, Sandara’s Romance. The series premiered on August 16, 2004, and aired on a 3:30 pm timeslot, right after the movie block, Kapamilya Cinema.
Reynes starred Maid in Heaven alongside several seasoned Kapamilya stars, including Cherry Pie Picache, Mickey Ferriols, Candy Pangilinan, and Pokwang. Then TV sensations, Katrina and Kristine Gonzales aka Jaboom Twins, were also part of the cast. Originally intended to be a docu-reality series about real-life maids, the series was modified and turned into a full-fledged comedy series, but with fantasy elements. In the series, a 1920s girl who died in an accident was sent back to Earth to fulfill an unfinished mission. Under the guise of a maid, she comes alongside a few more women to help a modern Filipino family out. This group of women navigates their lives together as they deal with both adventures and misadventures.
Wenn Deramas, who directed the series, alongside Erick Salud and Andoy Ranay, shared that “It’s inspired by the (late ’60s) comedy Pitong Atsay”, adding “Heaven is also somewhat inspired by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,”
The series aired its last episode on November 19, 2004.
