The 1st.One, a fast-rising boy group resumes its bid to dominate the local idol scene with a blazing and feisty comeback single and music video.
Four months after releasing their pre-comeback single ‘Oh,’ 1ST.One is back with a brand new anthemic track that pretty well signals their returning bid to make their mark in the exploding local idol scene. Although this return sets to confront new groups launched in the past few months, 1st.one seems all geared-up to showcase their boldest and feistiest form yet.
The group first made waves with their debut track, You are the One, which amassed more than 1 million views on YouTube.
Shout out, the group’s latest single has nearly 800,000 views in just two days–is poised to be the group’s biggest banger.
The energy-infused track pulses irresistible electronic beats and dance-pop hooks. It hints at synth bass and funk. The entire track has an addictive tendency as it also incorporates stabs of rock-pop and rap, although the biggest hook arguably comes from its synth-blasted, anthemic chorus.
The group tries to be a bit more creative with the music video, which is essentially a tribute to unsung war heroes, although the universal message may actually be for all heroes, in general. There is a point when the music video gives way for an inspired narration, while footage from the second World War and the infamous Bataan Death March plays on-screen. A beautifully captured dance break that features the six boys’ impeccable dance moves is inserted somewhere in the last few minutes of the track, although that seems to be a staple choice for boy groups, lately.
Composed of ACE, Max, Alpha, J, Joker, Jason, 1st One definitely has a long way to go to stake their claim to domination, although the dream may actually be within arm’s reach, given how much talent the sextuple has so far shown.
It also does not harm to think that what we have seen is merely a small fraction of what they can still do. Considering how much the group improved since their debut, it won’t surprise if Shout out turns out to be just the first in many leaps that 1ST.One is set to pull off.
While its intent to shed light upon a dark yet proud chapter in Philippine history is evident in the music video, the words of the track alone, are already a convincing invitation. There still a lot to look at on the music video, including its fiery visuals and vivid spunky colors, albeit limited to dark yellow shades. The exciting outfit changes are also something, although there surely are more gaping eyeballs to earn from scenes where the boys’ shirtless aesthetics are made to work.
