Young male artist Paolo Gumabao feels blessed on Friday, January 14, after he got to work with award-winning director Brillante Mendoza in Sisid.
“I feel very fortunate na ang mga directors na nakaka-work ko nga po ay s’yempre mga big names,” he said during the film’s virtual media conference.
The movie is the second project of his under Viva. He first starred in Joel Lamangan’s Lockdown back in 2021.
Gumabao, on several occasions in the press con, has reiterated how “liberating” it is to be part of the entertainment industry.
“You get to work with different kinds of directors, and you’ll learn different things. Then sa next director mo naman, grabe may matutunan ka na naman,” he explained.
He will be working under Mac Alejandre on his next project with Viva.
In Sisid, he had a kissing scene with Vince Rillon. Admittedly, he felt comfortable doing intimate scenes with a male co-actor.
Gumabao reasoned that men tend to not be “delicate” when it comes to same-sex scenes.
“Mas kumportable ako at mas nadadalian ko kapag ang ka-kissing scene ko ay lalaki. Kasi you don’t have to be that delicate. You can tell them right away na, ‘ bro okay lang ba gawin ko ‘to ganiyan.'”
In his experience, doing it with a woman–it was “complicated.”
“Mas challenging sa babae because you have to be more careful. S’yempre dahil sila ay babae, we have to do our best to respect them and not cross any lines.”
He then showed appreciation to Rillon, sharing that both of them wanted to establish a rapport with each other, which in turn, made them super comfortable with each other.
“Sobrang naging close kami sa set, wala nang problema yung mga bed scenes kasi para nalang kaming naglalaro.
“Like minsan nag-uusap kami beforehand, before the scene, tapos sasabihin niya sa akin, ‘Ano pre, sasagarin ko na ‘to ha?’ ‘Ako rin bro sasagarin ko rin para one take.’ Ganoon kami mag-usap ni Vince kaya na-appreciate ko rin talaga si Vince dito.
Sisid also stars Christine Bermas and Kylie Versoza. It will be streaming on Vivamax beginning January 19.
