On Monday, January 24, presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. dismissed the claim that his family owns the fabled Tallano Gold, which his supporters believed was the source of the Marcoses’ vast wealth.
The former senator running for the highest seat in Philippine government has revived the rumor about the Yamashita Gold otherwise known as Tallano Gold to be in their family’s possession.
“Balitang-balita hindi lang sa Pilipinas kundi sa lahat, meron talagang Yamashita gold. Pero sa buong buhay ko hindi pa ako nakakakita ng gold na ganyan,” Marcos said during an interview with One PH.
He also added, “Marami akong kilala na kung saan-saan naghuhukay. Pero ako wala pang nakitang kahit anong klaseng gold na sinasabi nila.“
The Yamashita Treasure was alleged to be a war loot stolen by the Japanese Imperial forces during World War II. It was claimed to have been hidden in caves tunnels, or underground complexes in different cities in the country and was “discovered” by the late Ferdinand Marcos Sr.
There were also claims that the Tallano Gold was given by the Royal Family to the Marcoses after Marcos Sr. represented them in courts. Many have believed in this rumor and shared it on their social media accounts, including the singer Dulce who shared it on her Facebook back in October 2021.
Influencers in support of Marcos’s candidacy have spread such rumors throughout various social media platforms like facebook, YouTube, and TikTok but the former senator has this to say:
“Baka may alam sila, sabihan ako. Kailangan ko yung gold. Wala pa akong nakikitang gold.”
Even his spokesman, Atty. Vic Rodriguez junked any knowledge about it.
“To be candid with you, I have always been candid with all of you. Hindi ko alam,” he admitted during an interview last week.
