On January 11, Kapuso executive Jose Mari Abacan shared his thoughts on the changes that Eat Bulaga went through as the longest-running noontime show celebrates its 42 years on-air.
During a media conference for the 42nd year of Eat Bulaga, Abacan revealed that the show doesn’t fail to surprise him.
“Ever since being a fan of Eat Bulaga and the one handling the show for the [GMA] Network, parang Eat Bulaga doesn’t seem–fail to surprise me kasi there would be times, kasi syempre ang dami naming, marami kaming paalala minsan kapag medyo lumalaylay ratings pero they keep on changing their content, para bang may nangyayari everyday.”
He also recalled how the showrunners of the noontime program usually assure him as a producer when it comes to providing new content for their viewers.
“Kapag medyo ganon lang, sasabihin nila, ‘sige Joey just relax mayroon kaming gagawin.’ So parang wala lang, parang it’s all–ikaw ang gagawin mo na lang manood at tignan kung ano gagawin nila.”
He also noted that Eat Bulaga always had a ‘good’ journey under GMA Network.
“That has always been my experience and now that I’m effectively in charge of productions, ayan na, ganyan pa rin ‘yung nangyayari. So parang, it’s always been a good journey for GMA.”
Eat Bulaga, led by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey Reyes is halfway through its 42nd year on-air. The noontime program began on RPN 9 in 1979, then moved to ABS-CBN in 1989. After that, Eat Bulaga partnered with GMA Network in 1995 and has been a Kapuso ever since. The show marked its 42nd anniversary in the middle of 2021.
