Linya-Linya is expanding their merch line with their first artist collaboration for 2022 featuring award-winning comic book creator and one of the most prominent contemporary cartoonists in the Philippines Manix Abrera.
The shirt features the local artist’s take on one of Linya-Linya’s famous catchphrase Pahingi ng Pahinga.
“Isa sa fave kong gawa nila [Linya-Linya] noon ay ang “Pahingi ng Pahinga,” kaya masaya akong gawan ito ng artwork muli na gamit naman si Bertong Badtrip,” Abrera explains.
“Yes, the new year just started, pero parang pagod na tayo agad! Wala talagang pinipiling buwan o taon ang pagod,” says Linya-Linya Creative Director Ali Sangalang.
“Super importante sa akin ng pahinga, kasi dito ako nakakaisip ng mga susunod kong ikukwento at idodrawing,” says the award-winning comic book creator when asked about what resonates to him the most about the Linya. “Important din sa akin sobra ang “tunganga” time kung saan nakatingala lang ako sa sky, at nag-iisip,” he adds.
The two creators have said that they are both fans of each other’s work. “Matagal na akong fan ng Linya-Linya dahil sa simpleng lines nila pero mapapaisip ka nang matindi,” says Abrera.
On the importance of collaborating with fellow artists, Manix credits his inclination to converse and come up with ideas through getting to know different creators. “Mahilig ako makipagkwentuhan, as in! At kapag nakipagkwentuhan ako sa iba, tulad sa kapwa artists, sumasabog ang marami pang ideas. 24/7 ang pakikipag-collab sa maraming tao. Sa Linya-Linya, umabot pa sa outer space ang ideas dahil sa collab na ito!”
“We started Linya-Linya to highlight the Filipino life through art and humor, kaya naman sobrang relate kami sa creations ni Sir Manix,” says Sangalang. “This is a very special treat to hardcore Manix fans o ‘yung mga tinatawag na ‘ka-Kiko’ like myself!”
Linya-Linya hints that this will be the first of many artist collaborations for 2022.
