Angel Locsin is among those big stars who also ventured into producing while pursuing acting.
It’s not very rare for popular actors to make that big of a leap into the world of directing and producing.
It’s a great way for many to finally assume creative control of the project they want to work in, especially when you already had years of diligently following what your directors ask you to do. That must be the case for Angel Locsin, who by 2007, had already starred in several Kapuso primetime shows, including the top-rated telefantasyas, Mulawin and Darna.
In the past two decades alone, we have seen several big stars make successful transitions to behind-the-scene work; that includes Coco Martin, who is currently one of the directors of the primetime series he stars in–FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. Drama actor Xian Lim also made this leap this year, when he directed the Web series, PasaBuy. Seasoned Kapamilya leading man, Piolo Pascual already made a significant mark in the realm of film production, having produced several remarkable films, including the film series, Kimmy Dora, the box-office hit, Kita Kita, and the ‘hugot’ film, Meet Me in St. Gallen.
In 2007, the Kapuso actress made her venture into producing when she produces her own film, Angels. The movie is a trilogy that offered three touching stories that starred some of the most brilliant stars in the local entertainment scene. Aside from producing it, Locsin also starred in one of the episodes, titled ‘Angel of Mine’. The episode follows Angie (Locsin), a career woman whose life turned upside-down when she was forced to attend to a child left by a problematic mother. The episode was directed by Gina Alajar, while the screenplay was written by Gina Marissa Tagasa-Gil. Alongside Locsin, the episode starred Eunice Lagusad, Pinky Amador, Malou de Guzman, Ketchup Eusebio, and Malou Crisologo. Locsin’s manager then, Becky Aguila, also co-produced the film, while OctoArts Films distributed it.
‘Angels’ is a three-part film which also featured the episodes, Daddy’s Angel, starring Marvin Agustin and Nash Aguas, and Angels of Love, starring Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia.
The film opened in Philippine cinemas on 20 June 2007 and grossed PhP6.37 million in the local box office.
