On Tuesday, January 4, esteemed director Dominic Zapata concluded that putting I Can See You: AlterNate in the primetime lineup is a risky move by GMA Network.
“I don’t think we often do mga suspense thrillers, especially for primetime television. I don’t know for what reasons but usually our decisions are very well-informed naman,” he said during the show’s virtual media conference.
The Kapuso Network always takes the necessary risks to ensure that its viewers are entertained for Zapata.
“Pero ginawa natin ‘to eh. If we don’t usually do it then it must be something that’s risky and the network has not shied away from risky stuff.
“If we feel like that’s where the television trend is going and that’s what we find compelling, and that’s what the audience deserves,” he explained.
AlterNate is the upcoming installment of the drama-anthology series I Can See You that stars Dingdong Dantes and Beauty Gonzalez. It is a suspense thriller that is not usually seen on primetime.
The director even said he struggled in making the series because of its complex story.
“I won’t deny ang hirap gawin. Umuusok yung utak mo eh. Ako palang ‘to ha? Hindi ako yung artista, hindi ako si Dong na who has to do it twice tapos magkaiba ang diskarte pati na yung mga kasama niyang artista.”
The show is also the first team-up of Dantes and Gonzalez and Zapata was amazed by their professionalism.
“Ang sarap nilang panuorin because these guys are consumate professionals. Naiintindihan nila yung how they feed of each other,” observed the director.
The director saw daily progress during their taping because of how dedicated the two are to their characters.
“Since ganoon yung kanilang acumen sa kanilang craft, kaya nilang pumunta do’n, magbatuhan tayo ng linya a few times on Zoom, tapos kapag nandito na tayo in person, will allow it to organically form habang nangyayari ang eksena. It gets even better as the day progresses. Within the same day nakikita ko na nagkakaroon at nagkakaroon ng dynamics.”
Zapata even confessed that he was hoping that the series would have a Book 2; he was left hanging by the time they finished taping the series.
“In fact by the end of the locked-in, ako sa totoo lang kahit ang hirap, nabitin ako. Kasi na-enjoy ko na eh. Hindi dumali in terms of amount of work pero it was just enjoyable you forget.”
I Can See You: AlterNate also includes Jackie Lou Blanco, Ricky Davao, and Joyce Pring. The show will start on January 10 on GMA Telebabad and will run for a whole month.
