On Sunday, January 23, controversial filmmaker Darryl Yap conversed with a GMA Network segment producer after he ridiculed a minor flaw in the sofa Jessica Soho was sitting on during her The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews.
“GMA Network GMA News paki-contact po si Ericson Navarro, napakagaling na Production Designer—award-winning pa.
“Ito pong mga lukot, hindi palalampasin ni Mama Obet Robert Reyes Santos,” he wrote on his facebook account.
GMA News’ segment producer Izza Beatriz Bermudez did not like the director’s suggestion as she replied that there were far more important details in the special episode.
She clarified that they lack manpower during the show since many of the production staff were COVID positive.
“Direk, mawalang galang na ho! Positive ang mga art dept namin kaya last minute nakapag pagawa but I know hindi mo ito tatanggapin as excuse syempre.
“Sobrang unmanned kami at pinili namin to focus sa CONTENT na mas MAHALAGA naman siguro no kesa sa napapansin mong upuan,” wrote on the comments.
Bermudez then retorted, “Bakit sa upuan ka lang may say direk? Pinanuod mo ba? Try mo baka may matutunan ka pa bukod sa pagbibilang ng butones at tahi ng upuan. Good night direk.”
In another facebook post, the director threw some shade at Bermudez for not taking his opinion in a positive manner.
He acknowledged that there were many of the staff being infected by COVID but the situation “doesn’t matter” because it was Jessica Soho doing the interviews.
Yap also added that he takes note of the criticisms he received rather than lambast his critics.
Replying to Bermudez’s “Baka may matutunan ka” statement, he realized, “Na may mga staff siya (Soho) na mas pipiliing magmaldita kaysa mapusong tanggapin ang di naman nakakapinsalang puna.”
Undermining his intellectual capacity, he quipped, “Ano po ang GWA mo ma’am? Nanood po ako— may pa-quiz ka ba? Ilang items? Crosswise o lengthwise?”
However, he said sorry for his unsolicited remark.
“I’m sorry kung na-offend kayo sa post ko. Pero I really think Jessica Soho deserves the best chair. After all—she is THE JESSICA SOHO.
“I am more than willing to send one as a congratulatory gift—napakaganda ng interview lalo na po sa Isang Salita,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews in spite of a wrinkled sofa racked 4.8 million views on YouTube a day after it was first streamed on the video-sharing platform. It was also one of the most anticipated programs last week.
The show tackled the different views and opinions of presidential aspirants Vice President Leni Robredo, Senators Ping Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, as well as the issues they faced as public servants.
