In less than few months, up-and-coming alt-R&B act Bajula has shown incredible promise with its debut track “Catching You.”
Aiming for cross-generation ubiquity, the soulful track has performed well online, receiving airplay at jam 88.3 and even ending up with critical praise from no less than ABS-CBN’s Rick Olivares.
Now, the eclectic duo behind last year’s irresistible bop is back with another future smash that is cosmic in scope, but intimate in presentation.
Entitled “Bad Man,” the song was written and produced by both Alvin “Vertigo” Guanlao and Jolo “Frazier” Juatco as a document of a particular stage in a romantic relationship. According to the press release, Bajula’s latest song deals with ‘flirting’ and getting to know the person on a surface level. “In terms of describing the actual song, Bad Man is about the internal battles of a reluctant pursuer towards a girl he likes,” Frazier said. “The theme is kind of flirty but chill in terms of the instrumentation and arrangement.”
For the first time, Frazier takes over the vocal duties and sings in fragile but soulful falsetto. Over lush electronic beats and ambient soundscapes, the track evokes nostalgic intimacy with a sexy, seductive feel.
“Bad Man” was initially conceived remotely before recording it in the former’s home studio.
As for other collaborators in the project, Bajula worked with visual artist Rene Bituin for the single art, and Hennie Ken Avila and Final Projects Studios PH for the assets needed for promotional content.
“Bad Man” will be part of Bajula’s upcoming debut album, Sensual Dance Club. Containing 8 tracks, the 2022 record aims to bring back the “fun” in soul music.
“Bad Man” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.
