The Netflix series All of Us are Dead premieres on January 28, 2022, exciting several fans of the zombie apocalypse genre.
However, what could viewers expect with the series since we already have a congested pool of zombie apocalypse media?
Well, what if the upcoming Netflix series is part High School Drama and part Zombie Apocalypse?
The series based on the Naver Webtoon, All Of Us Are Dead by Joo Dong-geun, may have the makings of the distinctive grotesque k-zombie films people love to watch, but it’s so much more than that.
Trigger warning! The first episode opens with a brutal and violent depiction of high school bullying, which successfully pulls the focus away from the looming threat of the undead by setting its tone at the start.
Aside from that, the series creators took their time in introducing the character dynamics during the first act. They did so while steadily hinting at how the zombie outbreak started.
On-set, the viewers would already have characters they would root for to survive (and to become a zombie), which may have a gut-wrenching pay-off at the end.
Director Lee JQ said he chose to cast fresh faces for the lead characters in the series, such as Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-ohyun, Lomon, and Yoo In-soo. The director revealed that he wanted the audience to lean towards the essence of the characters to enhance the experience of the zombie apocalypse.
The series director teased that some of the main characters would end up as part of the undead horde gnawing at their classmates.
The team behind the series also promised a realistic school setting, complete with a music room, cafeteria, library, and hall. Thanks to the director’s idea to create an enormous set of four stories that visualizes an actual size school, the impending doom of the zombie outbreak heightened.
To add to the spine-chilling backdrop of the story, Joo Dong-geun asked the director to make the series more grotesque than his webtoon novel.
So the series promises realistic cracking of the bones, gushing bloodstreams, and protruding eyeballs. Basically, the series pledges to deliver all the gore horror fans would want to see in a zombie series.
So with these details in mind, best pack your school bags and buckle up because All Of Us Are Dead would definitely be a gut-wrenching gore-filled ride. The series streams on Netflix on January 28.
