The ensemble family drama has all the makings of a classic teleserye you’ll have a hard time skipping.
An extravaganza of hefty drama and intense acting showdowns seem to be in store for avid Kapuso viewers, as GMA network offers an entirely new look at one of the cherished franchises in the history of local cinema.
There is a pile of great reasons why it deserves your attention and the following lists 10 of those.
It’s based upon the well-loved ‘Mano Po’ series.
Family Fortune links its story to the original film series that expanded to eight full-length features (Mano Po 1-7 & Bahay Kubo: A Pinoy Mano Po), making it one of the most critically and commercially successful film franchises in the history of local cinema, and only second to another Regal Entertainment film series, ‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll’.
It celebrates our rich Filipino-Chinese heritage.
Focusing on the lives of the Chinese Filipino community, Mano Po is well-positioned to tackle important issues surrounding our Chinese-Filipino peers. That include socio-political themes, but more importantly how family traditions and cultural conventions affect their decisions in business and running a family.
It stars some of the most seasoned actors in the local entertainment scene.
Boots Anson-Roa, who appeared in four Mano Po films, plays an important role in this television spin-off, as the matriarch, Consuelo Chan, who holds her family and her business empire together. The powerful ensemble she leads, includes seasoned drama stars, Sunshine Cruz, Maricel Laxa, among others.
Barbie Forteza is the main protagonist of the show.
One of GMA Network’s most important homegrown actresses, Barbie Forteza, has the spotlight on her, in this ambitious family drama that gathers veteran and rising young stars alike.Forteza has been known playing quirky heroine roles in various Kapuso romcoms, and here, while she never loses that comic appeal, she is poised to flex her dramatic chops when things in the series, become intense.
The series features some of GMA Network’s most promising young stars.
A whole roster of talented young stars joins seasoned drama actors in this series. Aside from the talented Kapuso teleserye princess, Barbie Forteza, Mano Po Legacy also stars up-and-coming Kapuso leading man, David Licauco, who charmed his way into Kapuso viewers via the recenty-concluded light romcom, Heartful Cafe. He is joined by charming young gentlemen, including Rob Gomez, Darwin Yu, Dustin Yu, and Nikki Co. Beauty queen, Casie Banks, is also part of the series.
Prolific writer and director, Ian Loreños, is at the helm.
Loreños has taken part in various important projects in the past, including directing one of the films in the Mano Po series. Formerly, an ABS-CBN staple, Loreños takes his creativity with him in GMA Network as the man-in-charge in one of the Kapuso Network’s most ambitious primetime television projects.
The series promises a hefty load of campy scenes and oversized confrontations.
Given the scale of its production and cast, it’s not surprising that things will take off from where they are now. And become more intense in future episodes. During the pilot week alone, viewers are greeted with the nostalgic sense of classic Pinoy drama, where endless scheming and emotional showdowns are main interest drivers.
