The successful Kapuso anthology series is stuffed richly with all the intrigue and drama viewers could ever ask for.
By now, I Can See You has proven itself as a game-changer in the real of drama anthologies.
For the past two seasons, different stories got featured by the show with unique and intriguing plotlines and were not adapted traditionally to mainstream media.
Viewers have seen bold and dark tales, with talented Kapuso actors committing themselves to pull the exceptionally unique roles given to them by the show.
This year, with its return, the anthology series is back with delivering some of the mind-bending and controversial stories on Philippine television, and AlterNate feels like the right way to kick off. Is it worth a watch? Maybe the following list can convince you to give it a try:
It stars GMA Network’s Primetime King, Dingdong Dantes.
Of course, we start with that. It is lofty enough to warrant this series a try, although there’s no arguing it has a got another reason. But Dantes, whose knack at playing challenging roles is pretty much an open secret by now, turns out to be still filled up to the brim of surprises. In AlterNate, he plays dual characters for the first time, and I’m telling you… he’s good, very good.
It’s Beauty Gonzalez’s sophomore Kapuso series.
By now, Gonzales should have convinced most Kapuso viewers that she [really] deserves the attention and care she is receiving from her new home network. After all, a talent like her, honed by her years playing dramatic roles in ABS-CBN, is hard to come by these days. In AlterNate, she plays Dingdong Dantes’s wife, Sheila, who gets caught up between her husband and her manipulative father-in-law, who is hellbent on keeping his grip on his son’s marital affair.
The story is uniquely dark and filled with mind-blowing intrigues.
Danger and mystery lurk in AlterNate. It’s a quality that seems embedded in the very fabrics of its narrative, which makes it unique and worth watching for husband and his wife going through rough patches and a threat of betrayal, the series adopts an intriguing fashion to pull off the show’s mainstream plot.
The show has an impressive roster of veteran and up-and-coming stars.
Aside from Dingdong Dantes and Beauty Gonzales, the series also has seasoned actors Ricky Davao and Jackie Lou Blanco. Davao plays the nefarious Lyndon David, Nate’s adoptive father, who is manipulative, above all. He’s the kind who does not accept ‘no’ for an answer, and he’s hellbent on making everybody fold to whatever he desires. Blanco, on the other hand, is the submissive wife who has no fangs to show, when her husband imposes what he wants.
Both Davao and Blanco are impressive in the take of their roles, although that should no longer surprise, given their years of pulling off these kinds of roles. Joyce Pring plays Dantes’s adoptive sister, Angie, who goes to extra lengths to support her brother, Michael, who is actually Nate’s twin brother.
The series is helmed by the esteemed director, Dominic Zapata.
Zapata has been with GMA network for decades and he has directed some of the network’s most successful series, including Darna (2009), Temptation of Wife (2012), My Husband’s Lover (2013), and Descendants of the Sun (2020). That should be enough to convince people he’s the right man to helm projects as big and delicate as AlterNate.
