On December 11, A and Q Film Productions producer Mary Melanie Quiño shared how she came up with the cast composed of Winwyn Marquez, Raymond Bagatsing, and Mon Confiado for the suspense-thriller Nelia.
During the media conference for Metro Manila Film Fest entry, Quiño said Marquez was her personal choice to don the role of Nelia.
“Wynwyn Marquez was my personal choice. You would wonder why di ba? Wynwyn would always act, she would always act as a villain in teleseryes, but because for me, if you become the villain of the story, it means you’re really a good actress.”
She also lauded Marquez’s versatility as an artist and potential to go global.
“Wynwyn is really a versatile actress, and I saw her talent, and I know she can reach so far and go global. And I know she’s very talented, and I really believe in her.”
As for Bagatsing and Confiado, Quiño cited the actors’ achievements throughout their careers.
“For other casts, Raymond Bagatsing and Mon Confiado. They have already proven themselves in their respective fields. We saw them already, they have lots of awards already, and we are very proud that they accepted this project.”
She then teased the sequel for the suspense-thriller, noting that she’s already working on it.
“Maybe because we are already anticipating for Nelia part 2. I’m actually starting to write that story.”
Earlier, Quiño revealed that Nelia was an inspiration from her college days while reading Liwayway magazine.
“Actually, when I made the idea or the concept fifteen years ago, or when I was still in college, I really loved reading particularly, Liwayway. It’s a famous Filipino magazine, and I love reading those. And while reading those materials, I was inspired to make a story like the authors of Liwayway.”
Nelia premieres on December 25 during the Metro Manila Film Festival 2021 in select theaters in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The suspense thriller stars Winwyn Marquez, Raymond Bagatsing, Mon Confiado, Ali Forbes, Shido Roxas, and Juan Carlos Galano, and is directed by Lester Dimaranan.
