On December 7, showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz shared his thoughts on the recent viral video of seasoned action star Robin Padilla singing to the beauty queens of Miss Sultan Kudarat 2021 in November.
On his vlog Showbiz Update, Diaz initially cited netizen’s reaction to the viral video, wherein they thought Padilla was drunk while singing “Wonderful Tonight.”
He then explained that Padilla was only “following the tune” of the Eric Clapton iconic single.
“Hindi si Robin [Padilla] ganon talaga kumanta, kasi tono ng kantang ‘yun, ‘yung Wonderful Tonight parang lasing din. Kaya siguro ginagaya lang ni Robin.”
He also recalled working with Padilla in the sitcom Pwedeng-Pwede in 2000.
“Nagkasama kami sa Pwedeng-pwede Sitcom noong year 2000. Kumakanta–ganon talaga magsalita si Robin.
“Ganon talaga ‘yung boses ni Robin. Medyo binibirit niya ng ganon para tunog–kaboses niya si Eric Clapton.”
Diaz added that he doesn’t want people to misinterpret Padilla’s performance during the event.
“Buti na lang kilala ko si Robin, baka mamisinterpret nila.”
Diaz’s co-host Mama Loi noted that netizens also thought Padilla was making fun of the song when he performed it.
“Akala kasi rin nila parang niloloko ni Robin ‘yung kanta. Jinojinojoke time.”
Diaz then acknowledged that Padilla might have drunk a bit during the event but assured netizens that the action star was himself at the time.
“Ako na po ang nagsasabi sa inyo, kung lasing man si Robin noon, baka naka-inom ng konti ha, pero ganon talaga siya kumanta pag may ginagaya siyang boses.”
Earlier, Diaz expressed his disapproval of Robin Padilla’s bid for a senatorial seat in the 2022 elections.
As for Padilla, he recently went viral because of ‘improperly’ displaying the Philippine Flag. His post intends to show the public that he plans to wage war against poverty and corruption for his senatorial bid.
