By now, Mariano’s fated venture into recording has already made it clear that she certainly is one big thing as most people have predicted she would become.
Barely a week since the release of her debut studio album, Daylight, the-now-considered, one of ABS-CBN’s emerging superstars, delights her fans once more with the debut of her second official single, Tanging Dahilan. Via the anthemic love song–she hits the right notes once again.
But she brings with her a few more surprises.
Released under Star Music’s sister label, StarPop, Tanging Dahilan, is one of Daylight’s only two all-Tagalog tracks, the other is Sigurado, which made waves with millions of views and streams in various video and audio streaming sites, ahead of Daylight’s release. Through its rousing acoustic ballad, Tanging Dahilan has all the makings of a summer love anthem, although it may find more audiences in those who are going through long-distance relationships. Its writer, Gabriel Tagadtad, shared that he wrote the song for testifying to the existence of true love between two people separated by great distances. There seems no reason why he would not succeed at such a goal, given how beautifully Mariano’s take on his song has turned out.
Plain as it may seem–Tanging Dahilan’s music video has that sweet and breezy feels that make hearts flutter. Its clear and barely four-minute production has the sole intent of showcasing Belle’s magical visuals. The music video is brightened and amplified by her presence.
That said, Mariano has skillfully flexed glimpses of her dreamy vocals in the entire music video. She pulls off her charming runs and mesmerizing head tones, here and there, without losing her natural register.
It’s easy to understand Tanging Dahilan’s plain but colorful charm. It’s a sweet and lighthearted love anthem that intends to impart a more heartwarming vibe. It does not intend to become your next ‘heartbreak’ anthem; it feels more like your next ‘sugar crush’ track, one that you won’t have a problem playing on loop any time of the day.
