American singer and actress Skylar Stecker said she felt honored for singing OPM or Original Pinoy Music for Troy Laureta’s recent album with ABS-CBN Music International, Giliw, in a global media conference held on Friday December 10.
Laureta’s Giliw: A Troy Laureta OPM Collective Vol. 2, features world-renowned local and international singers who reimagined classic OPM hits.
The 13-track album includes Stecker’s reimagined version of Laging Tapat by Jolina Magdangal.
The 19-year-old singer said it was a pleasure to work with the Filipino-American musical director she has known for a long time.
“Troy is so special, and I’ve had the pleasure of being able to work with him in a lot of different things, including my home projects and my shows and everything since I was 12,” Stecker shared.
Stecker described Laureta as a talented and amazing person. She said she also has huge Filipino songs and singers thus she is just honored for singing OPM songs.
She said, “When you asked me to be part of it, I was obviously very, very excited and I just have a lot of respect for Filipino music and Filipino singers and I just feel honored that I hopefully didn’t butcher it. I just have the huge honor to be singing and celebrating Troy’s beautiful piece of work.”
Stecker’s career began when she performed at the 2012 International Modeling & Talent Association Awards in Los Angeles, where she was awarded Best Singer and Most Sought After Talent. In September 2015, Stecker was picked as Elvis Duran’s Artist of the Month and was featured on NBC’s Today where she performed her single Crazy Beautiful.
In 2015, she released her debut studio album, This Is Me. In March 2019, she independently released her second album, Redemption.
