Rising Filipino R&B/Hip-Hop power collective, Rhythm and Drip, releases their latest single, “Sana” on Friday, December 10.
The 8-piece collective who was recently nominated for Best Performance by a New Group Recording Artist at the 34th Awit Awards is comprised of Cean Jr., Nexxt777, Khryss Arañas, Marc Arroyo, JP Bacallan, GFAB, Max Impurtante, and Kiddo Chris.
Over a year since their last release, the group is back to pump up the holiday vibe with a revamped and eccentric Christmas track, Sana. A record that captures the thrumming of a nostalgic mood during the yuletide season in a pandemic era.
Sana rings a wistful carol as it talks about the “yearning desire for a loved one this Christmas.” Inspired by the current state of the world, where restrictions posed by the pandemic hinder friends and families from coming together for a traditional festive celebration, Sana catches the long haul of nurturing relationships in a time of seclusion.
While Sana carries a fitting tune for this Christmas season, its narrative is not limited to a “single experience,” says Khryss Arañas. He adds, “Sana recognizes the struggles in maintaining relationships of all kinds amid the pandemic.”
Rhythm and Drip is known for dropping tunes with striking timbres and pounding melodies. In their latest single, Sana, the sonic arrangement is shaped and influenced by a lot of R&B and a hint of some jazz tones, says producer Marc Arroyo. He adds,
they incorporated several hip-hop elements into the structure to fit “that familiar sound that this generation loves.”
With various members bringing diverse and unique artistic ideas to the table, the group’s creative process in crafting Sana bears out the versatility of each Rhythm and Drip artist.
“Sana started as an attempt to try writing it collectively, together, unlike how we wrote our previous songs [Mawana and Pero] where we established a main idea and everyone would surprise the others with one’s unique approach to the song, capitalizing on our versatility. This was supposed to be released in 2020, but every R&D [artist] has their own thing to deal with. So, we settled on doing it the way we’re used to doing things. I guess it sounded better. After all, our versatility is our greatest strength.” shares Khryss Arañas.
Previous releases by Rhythm and Drip include their debut single Mawana, which amassed over 200k streams, and Pero, which has almost 800k streams on Spotify. In their latest single, Sana, “better vibes” will echo, says Marc Arroyo. Khryss Arañas adds, their listeners can expect the “same dynamics” that the group has proven with their previously released tracks.
Published by O/C Records, Sana is now out on all digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
