On December 27, former MNL48 member turned actress Rans Rifol won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Kun Maupay Man It Panahon at the 47th Metro Manila Film Festival.
What made Rifol’s MMFF win an astonishing achievement is the artist’s first-time appearance in a movie as a supporting star.
Her Supporting Actress win made people notice the rawness of her talent as a heavy drama actress. But who exactly is Rans Rifols before becoming a young, fast-rising award-winning actress?
The 20-year-old artist began her career with movie appearances in Ang Alamat ni Meng Patalo (2015) and Batibat (2017).
She then joined Filipino girl idol group MNL-48 in 2018 under Team MII.
She graduated from the idol group and joined Star Magic in 2020 during the talent management arm’s Black Pen Event. In the same year, she starred in an episode of the Kapamilya series, Ipaglaban mo.
After that she auditioned for her role in Kun Maupay Man It Panahon. Director Carlo Manatad noted Rifols’ spunk and rawness when she portrayed her role in the movie.
“Ang pinaka-nagustuhan ko sa kanya is, this may sound cliche, pero yung pagka-raw niya tsaka yung spunk nung character niya.”
He also shared one of the reasons why Rifols was perfect for her role.
“On a basic level also, of all the auditionees who auditioned for the film, isa lang siya sa mga actresses na nag-audition na kapag pinag-Wawaray ko, tamang-tama yung intonation. So parang sabi ko sa sarili ko, aside from the rawness ng pag-perform, at least lessen akong mahihirapan sa pagturo sa dialect.”
Former ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, who won the MMFF 2021 Best Actress in a Leading Role Award, also lauded the young actress’s portrayal.
“Rans is very good in this film. You know Rans is Andrea, Andrea is Rans, perfect casting.”
Aside from Rifols and Santos-Concio, Kun Maupay Man It Panahon‘s lead actor Daniel Padilla was also named as the Jury Prize Awardeeat the Gabi ng Parangal.
