On December 11, seasoned actress Maricel Laxa said she considered Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune her homecoming to GMA Network and Regal Entertainment.
During the media conference for the upcoming series, Laxa recalled her showbiz journey with GMA Network and Regal.
“It is also a homecoming for me kasi I started in GMA. And then when I was/ seen by Mother Lily (Monteverde) sa GMA Supershow that’s when she asked me and invited me to be part of Viva Films. Para akong nabalik sa magagandang memories of my beginnings. I never imagined that I would be here in this season of my life.”
She then expressed her gratitude for working with seasoned actress Boots Anson Roa.
“Having had the chance to work with her [Boots Anson Roa] again, this time, made me realize, ‘wow, I want to be that.’ She inspired me again, and again, sabi ko, I never realized, I’ll be back, but I’m here, and I want to be just like her.”
She also admitted that she didn’t expect to get offers in showbiz as she was happy and content supporting her children.
“Hindi ko ine-expect na in this season of my life na mayroon pa rin akong projects in showbiz. Kasi sa totoo lang hindi na ito ‘yung parang ini-imagine ko para sa sarili ko, I’m very content where I am, I am just so happy seeing and supporting my children doon sa mga ginagawa nila on and off screen.”
Laxa then revealed that her son, Donny Pangilinan, convinced her to accept the project.
“Pero kagagawan ‘to ng anak ko eh, si Donny [Pangilinan]. Unang-una dati niya akong pinipilit na mag-say yes pero hindi ko rin sila masisisi na pilitin ako kasi kung may magagandang projects na dumadating, parang hindi rin naman tama na mag-no ako di ba? Kasi kahit papaano pala, once na nasa dugo mo ang showbiz parang tumatalon ‘yung dugo pag ka may darating na isang bagay na alam mo na tama para sayo.”
Laxa’s last project with GMA Network and Regal was the 2013 movie My Lady Boss starring Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera.
As for Laxa’s homecoming project, ‘Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune’ premieres on GMA Network in January 2022. The cast includes Sunshine Cruz, Barbie Forteza, Rob Gomez, David Licauco, David Chua, Boots Anson Roa, Darwin Yu. Dustin Yu, Cassie Banks, Nikki Co, and Rob Gomez.
