Multi-awarded Filipino actor John Arcilla was amazed at how Koreans can create extraordinary shows and films, Friday, December 10, believed that their culture has played a part.
In the virtual media conference of his Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry A Hard Day, an adaptation of a Korean movie with a similar title, Arcilla admitted, “I really don’t know why, you know.”
The actor confessed that he and his mother were “hooked” at a particular Korean TV show. From there, he concluded that Koreans have a unique way of making television programs because of their culture and perspective in life.
“They have this sensibility na very distinct at kakaiba. The way… it’s something to do with the culture. I think it has something to do with the way they look [at] life.”
Arcilla also pointed that Filipinos have a similar filmmaking style similar to the Americans, sort of being a “colonial.” Meanwhile, Koreans have kept their “sensibility” as Asians and brought into how they make their shows and films.
“Maybe their sensibility as Asians look so different and very distinct from our point of view because nga medyo Americans yung ating concept of filmmaking, of how to deal with life. Siguro kaya ganoon.”
Arcilla was also amazed by the Koreans as he said, “I am also really wondering kung bakit sila ganun ka-amazing, pati yung pagtahi nila ng kwento kakaiba. Kahit ako bilib ako sobra. Nagtataka ako.”
A Hard Day also stars Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes and is under the direction of Lawrence Fajardo.
Catch the movie in cinemas nationwide, December 25.
