Jake Zyrus dedicates his rendition of the song Maghintay Ka Lamang for his mother Raquel Pempengco.
Maghintay Ka Lamang is a part of Filipino-American music director Troy Laureta’s album “GILIW: A Troy Laureta OPM Collective Vol. 2.”
In the global media conference for the said album, Zyrus admitted that his mom was his inspiration in singing the song “Maghintay Ka Lamang.”
“Actually alam naman po ng mga tao kung kanino ko dine-dedicate ‘yung song which is my mom.
If she’s listening right now, she knows I love her very much, and that song will always be for her,” he said.
Jake Zyrus and his mom Raquel Pempengco are known for not being on good terms with each other. Their falling out started after Jake came out as a lesbian in 2013.
In 2018, Jake even noted that his family considers him as the “devil” of the family.
However, with the singer dedicating the song “Maghintay Ka Lamang” to his mom, Jake hints to reconcile with his mom again.
The album GILIW features renowned singers like Grammy award-winning artists All-4-One and Deborah Cox and “American Idol” season 2 winner Ruben Studdard.
The album features 13 song tracks that include a “Magkasuyo Buong Gabi” duet by Deborah and Ruben, a version of “Laging Tapat” by American singer Skylar Stecker as well as “Paano Ang Puso Ko” by male R&B and pop group All-4-One.
The album was released on Friday, December 10, and is available on various streaming platforms.
Lyric videos of the songs from “Giliw,” have also been uploaded on the official YouTube page of ABS-CBN’s Star Music.
