On December 7, comedian-writer Inday Garutay called comedian-host Vice Ganda Too Clever By Half on Ogie Diaz’s vlog Showbiz Update.
Inday said Vice should enrich his craft as a comedian.
“Pagyamanin na lang natin ‘yung craft natin, lalo na too clever by half siya.”
The ‘too clever by half’ idiom pertains to people who are annoyingly proud of their intelligence or skill and in danger of overreaching themselves.
Her remark stemmed from Vice’s vlog wherein the comedian, alongside Lassy and MC, elected fellow comedians and people they knew in the industry for various ‘katuwaan lang‘ categories.
MC nominated Inday for the ‘pinaka hindi nakakatawang’ comedian, after which the three elected her for the ‘katuwaan lang‘ category.
Inday reacted to the post through a deleted social media post calling the trio “gargoyles.”
“To Vice Ganda and your Gargoyles, ipagpapasa Diyos ko na lang ang pang-iinsulto niyo sa akin, just Fear the Prayer of the oppressed.”
She admitted that she got hurt with the vlog, noting that they weren’t close friends.
Magkatrabaho kami, magkakilala kami, we respect each other kapag magkasama kami pero hindi kami magkaibigan. Siyempre, very insulting ‘yun sa akin.”
She then expressed concern that the vlog might affect her livelihood as a comedian.
Kasi nga may impluwensya si Vice, let’s face it. ‘Yun ‘yung sinasabi ko, what if may umatras.”
Inday then recalled her time in the comedy bar Punchline Laffline, wherein she alleged Vice had her fired from the establishment.
“Actually meron, it’s a nemesis na eh. You can never ever argue with success. To begin with, alam mo naman, noong 2010.
Inday worked as a comedian in various productions such as Fantastic Man, Juan & Ted: Wanted, and Maginoong Barumbado. She then worked as a writer for gag shows such as GMA Network’s Sunday Pinasaya. Aside from showbiz, Inday also took her chance in politics when she ran as councilor for San Juan in 2016.
