Due to the advantage of GMA Network in terms of audience reach, its programs can easily dominate the leaderboards for the most-watched programs nationwide.
On November 26, the highly-anticipated debut of Sharon Cuneta in an ABS-CBN teleserye via ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’, failed to meet expectations as the show’s ranking and rating (9.4%) have dropped on the said day.
Meanwhile, ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’s’ rival Kapuso show ‘I Left My Heart In Sorsogon’ (12.3%) scored high and remained consistent in the second spot on the same day per data released by AGB Nielsen.
However, these comparisons are unfair because ABS-CBN remains off-air with its expired franchise. Considering this, the network’s reach is limited to its partnered channels, A2Z, TV5, Cinemo, and Kapamilya Channel.
With around 50 relay stations nationwide, GMA Network’s reach is immensely far compared to the franchiseless network ABS-CBN so, its programs can easily win in free TV.
Despite this, ABS-CBN continues to reign in online platforms. The November 26 episode of ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ gained more than 4.6 million views on YouTube that is huge compared to the 1.9 million total online views for the 11 episodes of ‘I Left My Heart Sorsogon’. Clearly, ABS-CBN wins big in terms of an online presence.
As of writing, ABS-CBN Entertainment Channel, with 37.2 million subscribers, still stands as the biggest YouTube channel in the Philippines.
