Christian Bables said he dedicates his Metro Manila Film Festival 2021 Best Actor Award to extrajudicial killing victims during the Gabi ng Parangal held on Monday, December 27.
Bables said his award is dedicated to the “voiceless” and “oppressed” like his role, Dharna, in Big Night.
He said in his speech, “Let me fight with you through my art.”
Big Night is a dark comedy film that tackles extrajudicial killings. It tells the story of Dharna, a gay beautician who just discovered that he is part of a watchlist. Jun Robles Lana directs it.
Big Night also won the Best Picture award.
Kun Maupay Man It Panahon won as Second Best Picture, while the Third Best Picture went to A Hard Day.
Charo Santos-Concio won as Best Actress for her role in Kun Maupay Man It Panahon.
The Best Supporting Actress went to Rans Rifol of Kun Maupay Man It Panahon while the Best Supporting Actor was awarded to John Arcilla of Big Night.
Special Jury Award was awarded to Daniel Padilla nof Kun Maupay Man It Panahon.
The Best Director and Best Screenplay was bagged by Jun Lana for his film Big Night.
He was declared Best Leading Actor at the 5th Hanoi International Film Festival for his character “Intoy” in Signal Rock. He was also given a Best Supporting Actor Award at the Gawad Urian Awards for his trans woman character “Barbs” in Die Beautiful.
