Former GirlTrends (GT) member Chie Filomeno revealed that her previous viral fiasco dance with her group made traumatized her causing her to stop dancing for two years.
Filomeno was recently launched as Ginerbra San Miguel’s 2022 calendar girl. She was officially introduced Wednesday (December 1) via an online launch event as the newest member of the Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) family.
In an interview with the young star, she revealed that she hopes that this new chapter in her life as GSM’s calendar girl will help her get over from GT dance fiasco that hurt her career in 2019.
The said performance was GirlTrend’s dance version of Sam Smith’s “How Do You Sleep.” Their performance trended as netizens made fun of the group for their unsynchronized steps.
“Siguro itong fiasco with the GirlTrends na nagkamali-mali tayo diyan. Siguro two years din akong hindi sumayaw sa live TV…” Filomeno said.
She also shared that she was deeply affected by the netizen’s bashing and even became depressed.
“You know yourself better than anyone, pero pag nababasa mo siya every day of your life ever since, parang maniniwala ka na doon sa sinasabi na, ‘Hindi ka magaling,’ ganito, ganoon, ‘Bakit ka andiyan?’
She added, “Na I questioned myself na passion ba iyon? ‘Tapos I’m trying to veer away from it dahil sa mga taong di ko naman kilala, na hindi alam ang effort na ibinibigay sa isang bagay. I tried to prove them wrong, and prove myself also.”
But she did not let her bashers take over her belief in herself and her passion for dancing.
“So, for me, siyempre, naging sad ako, naging depressed ako. Pero I woke up one day na I don’t want to give them that power.
“So yun, sabi ko, ‘I can dance again. I can dance again because that’s my passion,’” she said.
The Ginebra San Miguel Calendar Girl is a long-held tradition in GSMI and an important part of the brand’s history. Since its inception in 1988, beauty queens, actresses, and models who have made their mark in their respective fields have graced the Ginebra San Miguel calendar.
Among them were Marian Rivera (2009 and 2014), Anne Curtis (2011), Solenn Heusaff (2012), Kim Domingo (2017), former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach (2019), and Sanya Lopez (2020).
