On December 9, former ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio revealed that she had always wanted to work with Daniel Padilla and Director Carlo Manatad.
During an interview with Rappler for Kun Maupay Man It Panahon, Santos-Concio said she immediately accepted the offer for the MMFF 2021 film because of the chance to work with Padilla and Manatad.
“I read it in one sitting. I was [felt] drawn to the story and the character. I said yes right away, because you know, gustong-gusto ko makatrabaho si Daniel [Padilla]. Gusto ko makatrabaho si Direk Carlo [Manatad]. I always welcome the idea of working with young directors, new young directors.”
She recalled the challenges she faced with the film, especially with the Waray dialect.
“Then she told me, waray ‘yung buong pelikula. Sabi ko naman, ‘game, game!’ So she sent me the script in Waray, when I started reading the lines sabi ko, ‘Oh my gosh, ano ‘tong napasukan ko.'”
She then shared her preparations for the role, including sessions with a dialect and a dialogue coach.
“I had three reading sessions with Direk Carlo and a friend. He’s their friend. We had three full reading sessions of the script we were/ provided with a dialogue coach and a dialect coach. Very professional talaga ang handling.
“I love challenges. I always look forward to something new. It adds value to my gray matter. Masarap, masarap ang challenges.”
