In her return to the acting scene, former ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio only had a hard time mastering the Waray dialect in Kun Maupay Man it Panahon, Tuesday, December 21.
“Yung pagsasalita ng Waray na kailangang aralin mo para mabigyan mo ng hustisya yung ginagampanan mo na karakter,” she shared during the movie’s virtual media conference. “Otherwise, smooth sailing siya eh.”
Santos said she had no problem doing her scenes because she was prepared for anything the story demanded of her.
“Alam mo naman kapag artista ka, ‘pag kailangan mong sumabak sa putikan, sabak ka. Ganoon talaga ‘yon, yun ang hinihingi ng eksena. Kapag may hinihingi ang eksena ibigay mo, walang rekla-reklamo,” she explained.
In the film, she plays a mother to Miguel (Daniel Padilla) and makes tough decisions after the super typhoon Yolanda hits Tacloban.
Santos explained that being a mother in real life made her highlight in the film the absolute love of a mother to her children.
“As a mother, I guess yung unconditional love ko para sa mga anak ko. Iyan ang dala-dala ko. Bilang isang ina, mahal mo lahat, warts and all sa anak mo. Unconditional ‘yan. Kahit ano gagawin mo para sa anak mo.”
The movie also consists of a young cast and director, in which Santos was happy to participate.
“Masarap makatrabaho ang mga bata. May enerhiya silang dala. You know, there’s this youthful energy and vibe and passion that they bring with them and it’s infectious. Yung desire nila to give excellence in everything that they’re doing, masarap. Masarap na pakiramdam ‘yan,” the actress expressed.
In the making of Kun Maupay Man it Panahon, filmmaker Carlo Francis Manatad cast actual residents of Tacloban City.
Santos was amazed by their courage to relive the tragedy that killed 6,201 people, saying, “Very cooperative kasi yung mga taga Tacloban. Tsaka alam mong dinaanan na nila ‘yon, may trauma na sila, pero may mga ngiti sa kanilang mga mukha.”
Kun Maupay Man it Panahon, an official entry for this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, will debut in Philippine cinemas nationwide on December 25.
