Should Filipinos normalize talking about sex? The cast and director of the upcoming Vivamax erotic-drama film, Eva on Wednesday, November 24, do think so.
During the movie’s virtual media conference took turns in sharing their thoughts about it.
First to share was Angeli Khang, the film’s star. She admitted she is open to talking about such a topic since it is need-to-know information.
“For me, hindi naman ako nahihiya to talk about sex life. Kasi the more you know about things, the more you’re going to be aware of it, and the more na alam mo kung ano ang gagawin mo sa mga bagay,” Khang said during the film’s virtual media conference.
The sexy star was also happy that Filipinos have reached the point of becoming more open to talking about sex.
“Happy naman na, yes 2021 na and majority of the people ay naiintindihan na it’s time to be open, time to be sensitive, too, but also to be intelligent in things and malaman ang iba’t-ibang takbo ng buhay.”
Angelica Cervantes, on the other hand, agreed that Filipinos should normalize topics such as sex. However, she also pointed that people should choose when and where it would be discussed.
“I think we should normalize talking about that. Pero you don’t casually talk about it. Minsan talaga kakapain mo lang yung kausap mo kasi there are people na they’re asking out of curiosity.
“Tapos meron namang people na asking just to—meron po kasing iba na medyo maselan, na parang medyo manyak ang dating. So kakapain mo pa din talaga,” she explained.
Cervantes then stressed that talking about sex would not degrade one’s personality.
“Hindi naman porke’t sinasabi nang mas nakakatanda sa atin na nakaka-degrade daw. I think it’s normal kasi normal naman na makipag-intercourse with someone.”
Quinn Carrillo reiterated Cervantes’s sentiment as she revealed that she teaches her younger siblings, including her nephews and nieces about sex, which sometimes leads her to trouble.
“And that’s what I also teach to my younger siblings, my nieces, my nephews, na be open about it. Kakausapin ko sila and yung mga words hindi ko shinu-sugarcoat. Talagang I’m very open to them and some of the elderlies would judge me about how I talk to them.”
She then shared that she always defend her belief[s] that the young generation should be educated about sex.
“I would argue to them na ‘wag na i-sugarcoat kasi sobrang kalat na nang mga taboo words ngayon. So ‘pag tinago n’yo pa sa mga bata, imbes na natututo sila, mas lalo silang parang nagiging hayok sa information about that stuff.
“It’s all about right information and that’s what I love about some of the films I watched na talagang we are being informed. So that’s what I also want to teach talaga na we should normalize, we should not judge. Instead, we should empathize talaga.”
Sab Aggabao meanwhile considered herself as a guide, a mentor for the young ones when it comes to sex.
“So mas maganda siguro na bigyan sila ng magandang details about doon na gagamitin nila in the future. Kasi minsan kapag hindi mo sinabi sa kanila about ‘yon, may madaling madisgrasya, may madaling nabubuntis kasi hindi nila alam paano ang gagawin.
“So I think, maganda na i-normalize, in a right way, yung talking about sex. Para maiwasan din yung kung ano yung hindi pa dapat mangyari.”
Marco Gomez also agreed with his co-stars saying that love knows no gender.
“I don’t see anything wrong talking about sexuality o kaya sex.
There is actually a lot to talk about, about sex and sexuality. I don’t see anything wrong with sexuality like men to men, girl to girl. I mean love is love and we’re just human you know.”
Ivan Padilla also stressed the advantage of reintroducing erotic films to Filipinos as he believed that they get most of their information from the shows and films that they watch.
“Ang maganda dito, kahit sex ang tema, there’s a lot of good information na ipinapalabas namin. You know, safe sex, how much involvement love in your sex life is.”
The film’s director, Direk Jeffrey Hidalgo even considered Eva as the bravest movie of Viva because of how it tackles sex.
“Kaya nga sinasabi ko, so far this would have to be the sexually bravest material of Vivamax. Kasi nga yung mga erotic films nila, side bar lang ang mga sex scenes and stuff. Eh eto talaga, it’s really all about sex,” stressed Hidalgo.
He then hoped that the movie would open up the minds of the viewers and accept that people need to be informed about it.
“And feeling ko, kami yung nangahas to open up about the topic for everyone else. In a way, the audience can live vicariously through the film. Sana ma-open yung curiousity nila.”
Eva will be available for streaming on December 24.
