Film entries–Big Night, Kun Maupay Man it Panahon, and A Hard Day brought home most of the awards at the recently concluded 47th Metro Manila Film Festival’s Gabi ng Parangal on Monday evening of December 27 at the Samsung Hall of SM Aura, Taguig, Metro Manila. There were a total of 23 awards given away by the MMFF 2021 organizers.
Christian Bables nabbed the best actor award for his performance in the film, Big Night. Kun Maupay Man it Panahon’s Charo Santos-Concio earned the best actress award. Jun Robles Lana walked away with the best director award for the film, Big Night.
This year’s Best Picture went to Big Night, while Kun Maupay Man it Panahon and A Hard Day were named second and third best picture, respectively.
The award-winning actor John Arcilla is the best-supporting actor for Big Night, while the newbie Rans Rifol of Kun Maupay Man it Panahon did a surprise win as the best-supporting actress.
Special awards were given to Big Night as a Gender Sensitivity awardee, Kun Maupay Man it Panahon as Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural awardee, Rosa Rosal as Marichu Vera Perez awardee, and Daniel Padilla as Jury Prize awardee.
Kandado by Pio Balbuena tells the story of Anghel who ends up in jail after failing to wear a mask–was named Creator Jury’s Choice award from the five short film entries in partnership with Meta.
During the occasion, the late MMDA chair Danny Lim and late writer Bienvenido Lumbera were honored with the Natatanging Gawad MMFF awards.

- Best Sound Design – Albert Michael Idioma for Hard Day
- Best Musical Score – Teresa Barrozo for Big Night
- Best Original Theme Song – Umulan Man o Umaraw for Huling Ulan sa Tag-Araw
- Best Visual Effects – Mofac Creative Works, Hue Media Quantum Post, Ogie Tiglao for Kun Maupay Man it Panahon
- Best Production Design – Juan Manuel Alcazaren for Kun Maupay Man it Panahon
- Best Editing – Lawrence Fajardo for A Hard Day
- Best Cinematography – Carlos Canlas for Big Night
- Best Screenplay – Jun Robles Lana for Big Night
The evening’s affair is the first-ever awards night held on a real-world setup [like the old normal] during the pandemic. The annual festival is currently running from December 25, 2021 till January 7, 2022.
