True to its slogan ‘Ang teleserye ng totoong buhay’, Pinoy Big Brother mirrors our real-life experiences, in love and being heatbroken.
PBB Kumunity Season 10 could not be any truer to its slogan ‘teleserye ng totoong buhay’ with the current events inside the house, that involve its two housemates, Anji Salvacion and KD Estrada. Both 19, Salvacion and Estrada, are two of the youngest housemates of this edition. The two are also regular performers on ASAP Natin ‘To, ABS-CBN’s Sunday musical variety show.
KD’s battle with mental health has been apparent since a few days into his stay inside the house. Apparently battling with anxiety, the young Kapamilya musician’s struggle has been seemingly amplified by her misunderstanding with fellow housemates, Anji Salvacion. Last night, netizens sent the hashtag #PBBHangggangDitoNaLang and several other topics linked to them to Twitter’s trending chart, as support poured out for both housemates.
It’s thanks to their fellow housemates, especially Samantha Bernardo and Alexa Ilacad, that the two have started the process of dealing with the matter more maturely. KD and Anji have admitted on separate occasions that they had ‘mutual understanding’ for each other in the past, but the feelings seem to have subsided, at least for Anji. On the other hand, KD has perpetually aired his hopes of developing a relationship beyond what they currently have with Salvacion. In both painful and heartfelt episodes, yesterday, November 9, KD unraveled all his frustrations and asked Anji’s forgiveness for bothering her with his feelings.
Anji, however, was resolute at getting a strong message across. “There will never a chance” she clarified in their emotional one-on-one conversation. She insisted that it is only friendship that she could offer and that boundaries must be set. It was a move that Samantha Bernardo’s advice must have inspired. On the other hand, KD received some wise advice from his fellow celebrity housemate, Alexa Ilacad, who told him he needed to give himself space to breathe and prepare for the next girl who would come along.
Estrada’s inability to hold it together was very apparent during the first few hours since their confrontation. He was apologetic afterward. “Sorry for all the trouble I caused a family mo din. But I just want you to know, I wish, I wish you knew how much hurt I’ve got through the past few months…” he said in a very emotional plea for understanding.
PBB’s resident psychologist, Dr.Randy Dellorosa, offered some explanation on the young housemates’ dilemma. “Unang-una, alam naman natin na may pinagdadaanan si KD. So he’s a person who is more emotionally needy. And that’s not the bad thing,” he explained.
“And dito naman pumasok si Anji, because Anji is a good friend, she’s very supportive emotionally and dito nakakuha ng support si KD. So for a while, they were a good team – Anji was helping KD. Pero of course, alam naman natin na it’s also tiring emotionally, and sometimes people get so tired taking care that they also need to take care of themselves.”
In the eyes of a casual viewer, KD’s heartbreak could squarely hit anyone. These experiences are relatable, and what the two housemates have been going through is just a perfect representation of the viewers’ very own plights in romantic relationships. This makes PBB an even more compelling illustration of our lives and our own experiences, hence its slogan ‘teleserye ng totoong buhay’.
