On November 15, model-turned-host Kyle Maceda got his big break as a host on CNN’s new program Cycling Unlimited.
Maceda shared details about his career as an artist during the media conference for CNN’s new sports program.
“I started modeling when I was 18, Trinain ako ni Roly Halagao. Trinaining ako ni Roly Halagao to be a model but after that sabi ko, acting looks fun. So I started acting. Tapos ‘yun doon ako nag start mag-audition, mga commercials, mga teleserye, mga movies.”
He also shared details about his modeling and acting projects.
“So far mayroon naman akong mga projects like, McDonalds, Onesimus, A film Mon Confiado and Nina de Belen, tapos this upcoming international film na hindi pa nilalabas sa HBO Asia.”
He then shared details of how he landed the project with CNN Cycling Unlimited.
“Sir Roly asked me to audition for this one. Sabi niya, mayroong show sila ‘yung magpo-produce, tapos try ko lang, since nagba-bike naman ako, why not try. I tried, luckily nakuha naman ako.”
He then shared his preparations for the hosting job, such as imitating his idol host, Drew Arellano.
“Everyday I do a 20KM run sa bike ko, every night I do some workout to strengthen my core para kahit papaano magkaroon ng form ‘yung body ko. Tapos I eat healthy meals. May diet akong mine-maintain.
“Pinapanood ko po si Drew Arellano, super ina-idolize ko kasi siya. When it comes to hosting, super galing niya, even though walang nga po–even though hindi ka niya kasama parang kasama ka rin niya doon sa movie niya, sa film niya.
“I do acting workshops po, pero sa hosting po, nagpa-praktis lang po ako sa bahay. Ginagaya ko si Drew Arellano, so far.”
Maceda then recalled how he got into biking thanks to his friends.
“Sa sports, I started on football, basketball, tapos recently, na-open up ako sa biking kasi nga po inaaya nga po ako ng friends ko. Tapos after that nagtuloy-tuloy na, lagi silang nag-aayang magbiking.
“March last year, yeah March last year. Bumili ako ng sarili kong bike. Noong una nanghiram lang ako, pinahiram nila ako, sabi nila, ‘try mong mag-bike. Sumama ka samin.’ Then at first, sabi ko, ‘Ayaw ko nakakapagod, di naman nakakatuwa ‘yung pagba-bike. Then after that, na-realize ko, after few more runs, it’s fun pala, especially kung nakikita mo ‘yung mga magagandang lugar na pinupuntahan niyo.”
As for the possibility of pursuing an acting career, Maceda said he’s open to it.
“Of course, I’m open with showbiz, since mas gusto ko talaga ‘yung showbiz, especially acting. Mas prefer ko siya. Pero when someone offers me a hosting gig, why not, especially kung gusto ko naman ‘yung gagawing show.”
He then revealed his favorite celebrities, such as Gerald Anderson, Mon Confiado, and Bianca Umali.
“Noong bata po ako si Gerald Anderson talaga ‘yung idol ko, when it comes to being a celebrity. Tapos si Sir Mon Confiado, especially sa mga acting niya, mga award-winning. Tapos sa babae naman po si Bianca Umali, kasi nakatrabaho ko na siya sa film na ginawa namin sa HBO Asia.”
Maceda has a background in modeling, wherein he worked on campaigns for McDonald’s and Onesimus. He also has walked in various Pinoy Fashion shows.
As for his film and TV background, Maceda worked in projects like Dalawang Ama, Halfworlds, and he had an appearance in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano in 2019.
Now, Maceda hosts CNN’s Cycling Unlimited with influencer Aira Lopez, and their sports show focused on cycling has been scheduled to premiere in March 2022.
