“I guess ang position naman ng TV5 is really we could work with anybody, everybody,” said Robert P. Galang, CEO and President of TV5 and Cignal TV, on Friday, November 12, after he was asked to give his reaction on the Kapatid Network breaking the so-called ‘network wars’.
Furthermore, Galang explained that the network was very open to collaboration during this pandemic ,wherein job opportunities were scarce.
“Our doors are open to working with people in the industry, and they really have a lot of talent in this industry.”
ABS-CBN and TV5 partnered on January 21, erasing the stigma that TV stations cannot work together.
“So we said na we cannot discriminate. Hindi kami yung nagmamalaki din eh. We are still working our way up. We do not support yung naka-lock yung mga talents within networks.
“We really want to support the talents that people who are working in this industry to be able to find work and what is really best for the people. So ayun, in-open lang namin, hindi kami namili, basta willing to work with us also, p’wede naman ‘yon eh,” pointed Galang.
Despite collaborating with ABS-CBN and having most of its Primetime Bida lineup in TV5, Galang assured that the Network still cares for its own people.
“It’s also our way of helping the industry during the very very difficult time when there was very little work available for everybody. And we also took care of our own people that even during the pandemic and even now, we kept our own people, we did not lay off anybody. We took care of all our employees.”
Galang also shared his reaction on TV5 being considered being an “alternative programming,” saying they are contented as long as the Network can produce quality content suitable for Filipinos of all ages.
“What I can say is that what is important for us is to produce content that’s relevant, that’s enjoyable, that caters to the entire family.
“We want to air content wherein parents are comfortable in kids watching without being supervised, yung shows that would appeal to every member of the family.
“So if that would be… kung they see as an alternative content, then we’ll be happy as long as we are actually able to provide content that people enjoy. Kahit ano pa yang classification.”
But if he gets to choose from being an alternate and mainstream, explaining that it is important for mainstream media to be a family-friendly network.
“I’d say that I’d rather be mainstream. Kasi we’d like to cater to each member of the family. Kasi kapag sinabing alternative, ang thinking no’n, parang naka-niche s’ya eh.”
