Filipino indie folk-pop band Ben&Ben witnessed the greatness of Juan Karlos Labajo and Zild Benitez in their single Lunod and, on Friday, November 26, praised the two musicians.
In the virtual media conference to release the song’s music video, Paolo Guico, one of the group’s lead vocalists, described Labajo as a “veteran” when it comes to making music.
“Grabe sobrang beterano talaga siya. Siguro kasi maliban sa singer, actor din siya. Kaya grabe, ang galing. ‘Pag between takes, kapag nag-uusap kami ni Zild, sabi namin, ‘Uy galing ni JK grabe.'”
Paolo also could not help but admire Labajo’s passion for music.
“Grabe kasi talaga siya. Sobrang expressive kung expressive. Tsaka parang lahat nung take p’wede mong gamitin sa sobrang ganda at sa sobrang galing,” he added.
Paolo’s brother, Miguel, was wowed by Benitez, saying, “Nako grabe nga. Si Zild effortless ang pagka-angas niyan.”
Meanwhile, the band members Patricia Lasaten and Jam Villanueva shared what they learned after collaborating with other artists.
Lasaten learned that artists could showcase their true potential whenever they are allowed to be themselves.
“Ang isa sa mga natutunan ay grabe yung nagagawang output when you let an artist be themselves, when you let an artist just pour out whatever he/she has to give for the song. Yung very unfiltered, grabe, yun talaga.”
On the other hand, Villanueva shared that teaming up with other artists can create something better music-wise.
“Iba talaga yung magagawa nang output ng collaboration with other artists. Kasi you can’t figure that stuff out alone and hindi mo siya maiisip kung mag-isa ka lang.”
Lunod is part of Ben&Ben’s latest album Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno.
Apart from Benitez and Labajo, Ben&Ben also collaborated with artists such as Chito Miranda, KZ Tandingan, Moira Dela Torre, SB19, and indie favorite, Munimuni.
