Following Rabiya Mateo, Catriona Gray, Janine Tugonon, and Miriam Quiambao’s footsteps, Miss Universe PH Beatrice Gomez is the latest beauty queen who broke up with a partner.
It was on Tuesday, November 23, when Kate Jagdon announced that she and Gomez have ended their six-year relationship.
Jagdon said the past few weeks have been the most difficult time of [her] personal life.
She explained that she needed to release a statement about their breakup before rumors and falsifications get out of hand.
“Bea and I have parted ways. I am simply taking this step to move forward and go on with my life. Nothing more,” she wrote.
Jagdon also expressed her gratitude for her family and friends who have been helping her in dealing with the breakup.
She continued, “We all go forward with love and respect and I wish Bea the best of luck in her journey. At the moment, please respect my privacy and this will be the last time I will address the issue.”
Gomez is set to fly to Israel to represent the Philippines in the 70th edition of the most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe 2021 on Sunday, December 12 (Monday, December 13, MLA time).
Several Miss Universe Philippines winners also broke up with their boyfriends after bagging the crown. This led to some speculations that the pageant had adverse effects on every winner’s love life.
The names of Miss Universe Philippines winners who broke up with their partners after joining the pageant:
Miriam Quiambao and Martin Bernardo.
Quiambao was hailed as the first runner-up in the 48th Miss Universe held on Trinidad and Tobago on May 26, 1999. She then broke up with her boyfriend Martin Bernardo.
Janine Tugonon and Jaypee Santos.
Tugonon was also named as the first runner-up during the 61st Miss Universe held in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19, 2012.
It was in May 2013 when Tugonon confirmed that she and her boyfriend Jaypee Santos have ended their relationship. The split was allegedly caused by Tugonon’s attraction to The Script vocalist Danny O’Donoghue, who performed in the Philippines in March 2013.
Catriona Gray and Clint Bondad.
After winning the crown in the 67th Miss Universe on December 17, 2018, held in Bangkok, Thailand, Gray announced that she and Clint Bondad have ended their six-year relationship in an interview on Tonight with Boy Abunda in February 2019.
The beauty queen shared that even before the Miss Universe competition, she and Bondad already had misunderstandings.
Gray is currently in a relationship with actor Sam Milby. They confirmed being in a relationship in May 2020.
Rabiya Mateo and Neil Salvador.
In Mateo’s interview with ABS-CBN News on Monday, November 2, 2020, she released a statement about her loyalty to her boyfriend Neil Salvador.
She said, “I promised not to leave him even if I win. We’ve been dating for six years. He’s my first boyfriend. We’ve been together since college. I can make a man stay!”
But in June 2021, Salvador announced via a social media post that they are no longer together as Mateo chose to pursue her showbiz career.
As the saying goes, “The strongest actions for a woman is to love herself, be herself, and shine amongst those who never believed she could.”
Audrey Hepburn’s line may hold true as well, “Elegance is the only beauty that never fades.”
