ABS-CBN Entertainment, the number one YouTube channel in the Philippines, has surpassed 37 million subscribers.
ABS-CBN may have a weaker presence than its rival GMA Network on free television, but online–it dominated and is unquestionably clear. ABS-CBN is the king, as far as YouTube channels in the country is concerned.
Last year, ABS-CBN went off the air, following the cease-and-desist order issued by the National Telecommunication Commission, the country’s regulating body in broadcast media. The decision eliminated the former number one TV station’s presence on free television, for a while, until it returned again, albeit with limited presence, through A2Z Channel 11 and TV5. Due to its limited presence, the company strengthened its pursuit of online domination. ABS-CBN has since expanded its presence online, especially on YouTube and other streaming services.
On YouTube, ABS-CBN Entertainment, its main entertainment channel, is able to gather six million more subscribers in just a year. The network first reported the YouTube channel achieved such an incredible milestone in October 2020. ABS-CBN Entertainment is the first-ever YouTube channel by a major media company in Southeast Asia to reach such feat, and it remains no.1 across the region, today.
On Tuesday, November 16, the entertainment channel again broke another record when its subscribers breached the 37 millionth mark, for the first time. That means, a million more users subscribed to the channel, after just two months. ABS-CBN Entertainment surpassed 36 million subscribers in September. In terms of lifetime views, the figure now stands at 44.4 billion, or nearly 6 billion more than a year ago.
Other ABS-CBN-owned channels are making similar growth on the said platform. The company’s news agency, ABS-CBN News, just crossed 13 million subscribers last month, and with over eight billion lifetime views. The channel has grown with nearly three million more subscribers and nearly two billion more lifetime views, in just a year.
Similarly, ABS-CBN Star Music has added more than 1.5 million more subscribers in the same period and has now 7.1 million subscribers. The currently airing, Pinoy Big Brother, attracted more than 1 million subscribers to subscribe on its official YouTube channel, which has now 4.7 million subscribers. Star Cinema, the network’s film production arm, has grown to 5.2 million subscribers from 3.3 million subscribers a year ago. The YouTube channel also added 300 million more lifetime viewers throughout the same period.
