Award-winning actor Christian Bables admitted on Thursday, October 7 that he was lucky to be one of Direk Rahyan Carlos’s students in his acting workshops.
“More than the learnings na nakuha ko sa dun sa Star Magic workshops, ako, feeling ko, ang pinaka-blessing sa akin dito sa pagpasok ko sa Star Magic workshops is yung pagiging pamilya namin lalo na ni Direk Rahyan,” said Bables during the virtual launch of Star Magic Workshops.
Before he became one of the most-sought actors in the industry, he had no means to enter into one of Direk Rahyan’s workshops.
Luckily for him, the filmmaker discovered that he has the potential to be a great actor and allowed him to be his student.
“Si Direk kung hindi ‘yan naniwala at sumuporta sa ‘kin, siguro wala ako dito ngayon dahil before, wala akong pangbayad ng workshops!
“Kung hindi dahil sa consideration ni Direk na ‘Ah okay sige ikaw feeling ko meron ka, sige mag-training ka sa’kin, mag-training ka’,” he admitted.
That’s when he realized that Star Magic workshops have compassion for aspiring artists and he was lucky enough to experience it.
“Hanggang sa ayun nag-open ang mga doors for me. Kung wala yung puso na gano’n sa Star Magic workshops, marahil wala ako dito ngayon. So ang laki ng pasasalamat ko sa kanila,” ended the actor.
Meanwhile, Direk Rahyan was proud of Christian who won as Best Actor in the 2019 Bright Star Award and the Asian Pop Up Cinema for his role in the movie Signal Rock.
“I’m so proud of you Christian, we’re all proud of you. Kasi imagine parang ang bilis ng panahon? 2011 when you started with the workshops and then parang ngayon parang ibang-iba na ang buhay mo.”
Direk Rahyan then proceeded to commend on Bables’s humility despite the success he made as an actor.
“The good thing kasi with Christian… not for anything na andito si Christian, kahit na sikat na s’yang artista, at best actor na s’ya, hindi mo mararamdaman sa kanya yung yabang. Parang ganoon pa rin, parang estudyante ko pa rin s’ya noon, alam mo yun, very humble,” commended Direk Rahyan.
When it comes to learning, the filmmaker described the actor as a ‘sponge.’
“Ang maganda kay Christian is he is a sponge. Yung willing s’ya to learn. Lagi mong alam na there’s always much to learn for Christian. At hindi s’ya takot sumugal kung ano pa ang pep’wede n’yang malaman kahit na alam mong andoon yung fear, andun yung anxiety.”
Direk Rahyan also felt that the winning factor for Bables’s success was his passion for acting and the never-ending willingness to learn.
“I feel na yung sipag n’ya kasi sa workshop, that prepared him and not only the confidence. I think dapat ganoon ang artista eh.
“Yung anytime that opportunity knocks on your door, preparado ka kasi first impressions lasts. And I feel that yung passion ni Christian to learn, that puts him to that pedestal of being a good actor.”
Those who aspire to be trained by professional and practicing teachers in acting, dance, voice, and language, are all welcome to join the Star Magic workshops.Â
Enrollment is ongoing, and all classes will start in November 2021. This will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
