Why You Should See It:
GMA Network puts a refreshing spin on the worn-out ‘infidelity’ trope, as it mixes traditional elements with modern ones and compelling performances with a well-written storyline.
At the center of Kapuso Network’s newest primetime offering are characters played by Max Collins and Rocco Nacino. Dominique (Collins) and Gavin (Nacino) have been married for five years when their once vivid and fervid love for each other starts becoming dull and cold. The burden of the now tiresome marriage is obviously heavier on Dominique’s shoulders, as she begins feeling unprioritized by his workaholic husband.
A man comes in discreetly between them, putting yet another strain on their weary relationship. Returning Kapuso, Rafael Russel, plays Tony Gatchalian, a wealthy businessman who feels bored of his tedious marriage with his wife, Erica (Abellana), who has trouble giving him a child. So he sets his sights on Dominique and begins luring her into a forbidden affair.
Abellana has played a number of memorable drama roles in the past, but she switches roles here and becomes a cunning bida-kontrabida’. The character is yet to transform in its full-blown kontrabida form. Still, as early as the pilot week, Abellana already showcases what most viewers won’t recognize as her powerful versatility. As this is an ‘infidelity’ story, campy scenes are expected. The tall order is imposed on the series’ lead stars on the heels of recent Kapuso hits, whose stories also tackled similar themes.
With its relatable and compelling storyline, To Have and To Hold is hoped to reveal colorful dynamics in marriages and how people are involved responding to a number of factors, including deception, betrayal, and lust. It remains to be seen whether the series would indeed live up to its promise and potential.
