Why You Should See It:
It’s difficult these days to find a new local boys’ love drama that can make you convinced you to need to see its story unfold until the very last episode. While there has been a relentless release of new titles in the past months, too few have enjoyed popularity, let alone acclaim, that early Pinoy BL hits—Gameboys, Gaya sa Pelikula, Hello Stranger, among others—have achieved.
With Limited Edition, it is easy to say that this one won’t fall prey to the currently persisting boys’ love fatigue.
The biggest strength of this new series is its ensemble of talented actors. Even the supports here did good work, and the lead actors are [really] being the ‘lead’ actors.
The spotlight is on Jomari Angeles and Andrew Gan on the very first episode, as they exude that one unmistakable romantic chemistry, right from the takeoff of their soon-to-be-realized romance.
Both good-looking actors, Gan and Angeles look tailored-fit for this fairytale romance, which is set to become chaotic with the entrance of Ron Angeles’s character in the succeeding episodes.
It’s also not that hard to spot and feel Limited Edition’s big production qualities—although boys’ love series are usually low-budgeted productions. Cinematography and editing are beyond decent, and production design is commendable for a BL series.
The Boy Abunda’s opening voice, alone, suggests that this is a bigger-than-usual boys’ love production, but wise audiences won’t be easily get sold by that alone.
Limited Edition is set to shed light upon the ‘love triangle’ among three gentlemen played by Angeles, Gan, and Angeles.
The impressive pilot episode immediately brought Jomari and Andrew to viewers’ attention. From the get-go, you can easily ask why these two are perfect as a pair in a romance story–they are polar opposites, not just in character, but also… in height.
That said, both are extremely fine-looking heartthrobs.
In the pilot episode, viewers are introduced to Jomari’s character, Mario, who recalls his first encounter with New Yorker, Jethro played by Gan. Mario’s naivety and timidity caught the attention of Jethro, the returning countryman, who unabashedly told the former and unflattering comment.
A hilarious accident somewhat gave Mario a hint of Jethro’s playfulness, but the attraction he feels is something that would keep Jethro’s image stuck in his head.
Jomari is refreshingly adorable in this series. He carries Mario’s endearing attributes very well. He beautifully articulates his tendencies and gestures that are often natural for a discreet gay man.
His moments with Donny Cariaga’s character are lovely and chuckle-triggering, but that may be also thanks to Cariaga’s spot-on comic appeal. That being said, the brief moments Mario shared with Jethro, have showcased Angeles’s best assets, which is his capacity to connect with his partner, no matter who they are. He is quick to establish chemistry with the newcomer, Gan, pulling off their magical stare fest with ease and charm.
In the succeeding episodes, Limited Edition is expected to deliver a sensational love story that will showcase a different kind of everlasting romance.
