On September 24, Kapuso artist Mikee Quintos admitted she’s shocked-face and excited for her first single, Just Enough, under GMA Playlist.
During the media conference of the release of Just Enough, Quintos shared her reaction to her single release.
“Di pa siya masyadong nagsi-sink in so nasho-shock face pa ako. Today lang na-release ‘yung preparation and everything, it got me really excited about. Today, hindi ko pa alam ‘yung ini-expect na ko na feeling. Hindi ko pa gine-gauge ‘yung, gusto ko muna matapos ‘yung day bago ako mag-react.”
She also detailed how she picked out the song Just Enough from the roster of compositions under the GMA Playlist.
“‘Yung motivation ko po talaga, while we were on– doon sa whole process of creating the song, composer Roxy [Fabian], really wrote the words well for me.
“Like out of all the songs they sent me ito po ‘yung pinakatumama sa akin ’cause siya yung pinakamalapit sa definition ko of what I think love is na very calm, na very comforting, na hindi nakakabaliw. ‘Yung kalmado ka but it makes sense na hindi mo ma-explain but it make sense.”
She also added that her motivation for her single was her fans, who supported her.
“Motivation ko for this talaga fans, ‘yung fans, ‘yung support nila. Na — okay I don’t want to think na it’s corny, na people will say na palusot ko lang ‘yun, napangbigay ko lang ‘yun sa fans kasi totoong na-feel ko talaga siya for the fans. In a way na, last year 2020, or in my years in showbiz, it was really for me to take compliments.”
During her interview, she also recalled how she grew from her acting career into her music career.
“Nauna in my life, music talaga, singing. Pero ang nangyari kasi sa akin when I got into showbiz, bago sa akin ang acting. So doon ako mas nakaka-feel ng growth. Mas nakaka-feel ng something new. So, all of my energy was focused to developing my acting.
“At one point nga, kapag tinatanong ako ng mga tao, ‘singing or acting?’ Di ko talaga siya masagot kasi nandoon pa ‘yung feeling. Until a few years of my life, acting ‘yung kaya ko isagot. Feeling ko it’s time naman po na mag-focus ako sa singing kahit papaano.”
As for her musical influences, Quintos listed artists such as Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Sitti, and MYMP.
“Sa pag-play ng instruments, Taylor Swift. I remember ten-eleven years old at nagpabili ako ng gitara dahil sa album cover niya ng Our Song. And gusto ko ‘yung picture niya na may gitara siya, sabi ko Daddy gusto ko ng gitara.
“But for singing, I really liked Bieber’s style. Doon ko unang na-feel ‘yung pagka-fan girl ko kay Justin Bieber.
“And then noong mas nao-open na ako sa local, I’m a big fan of Sitti’s songs and her style sa acoustic, and MYMP also.”
GMA Network sub-label GMA Playlist released Quintos’ song Just Enough on September 24. The bubblegum pop track is currently available for download on iTunes and streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other digital streaming platforms worldwide.
