On September 24, Kapuso artist Mikee Quintos admitted feeling scared with her jump from acting to music during her single release, Just Enough.
Quintos admitted her feeling scared when she released Just Enough, noting her fans pushed her to overcome her fear.
“Motivation ko for this talaga fans, ‘yung fans, ‘yung support nila. Na– okay I don’t want to think na it’s corny, na people will say na palusot ko lang ‘yun, napangbigay ko lang ‘yun sa fans kasi totoong na-feel ko talaga siya for the fans. In a way na, last year 2020, or in my years in showbiz, it was really for me to take compliments.
“It was hard for me to jump into going music from acting. Like takot sa jump na ‘yun. All my life kumakanta ako, so syempre, magiging choosy ka sa ganon di ba? And ‘yung takot. Pero yung fans ‘yung nagpush sa akin na ‘yung messages nila na release a song na ganyan. ‘Yun po talaga. So I really want them to feel the love. Really this love that I’m feeling while I’m recording, sila ‘yung naiisip ko.”
Quintos said she took the right path in pursuing acting before music as it helped her record a better song.
“Ako firm believer ako kay God. And, ‘yung plan–na mas tama ‘yung plan niya for me kaysa sa mga gusto ko. Na kung para sayo, para sayo. Kung hindi, edi hindi. May plan para sayo si God.
“We had to record the song twice kasi noong una hindi ko siya ramdam. So ngayon nare-realize ko para din siyang acting na kailangan nandoon ka sa emosyon habang kumakanta ka para nararamdaman ka ng nakikinig.”
Quintos recorded various songs before. However, she sang these singles for her Kapuso shows.
She then explained how singing as her characters before differentiates from her singing as a music artist.
“Magkaiba po kasi ‘yung as character mismo. ‘Yung message na dinadala ng kanta, sa mismong tono or way ng pagkanta. So ‘yun naman pong sa way at ‘yung tone ng boses ko, hindi ko naman siya maiiba eh. But somehow dahil sa emosyon, like si Lira, bata ‘yung anggulo ko kay Lira eh bilang pang nanay ‘yung kanta.
“Doon sa buong song, yung tono ko, hindi ko mapasukan ng Mikee na style. Kasi pang daughter ‘yung kanta. So ‘yun po siguro ‘yung main difference dito dahil ‘yung recording po ng Just Enough, nakapaglaro po talaga ako as in Mikee.”
She then shared how important it is for her to tell a story through her songs.
“For me to be able to say na it is my song. Na it’s by Mikee. And that people are going to know. The people who are going to listen din na I’m a singer. So para ma-feel ko talaga na akin siya kailangan mayroon siyang story or hugot somehow as Mikee na ‘yung emosyon kahit paano masasabi ko confidently, totoo ‘yung emosyon ko habang kumakanta ko noong ni-record ko ‘yan.”
Quintos released her song Just Enough under GMA Network’s sub-label GMA Playlist on September 24. The bubblegum pop track is currently available on iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other digital streaming platforms worldwide.
