Galaxy Racer (GXR), one of the fastest-growing esports, gaming and lifestyle organizations in the world, headquartered in Dubai, with market presence in Southeast Asia, Middle East North Africa, South Asia and Europe, will be hosting their very own in-house ‘Squid Game’ tournament on Roblox—hyper localized in the Philippines to ‘GXR Pusit Game: Your Second Chance At Life’. Pusit means ‘squid’ in Tagalog and follows Squid Game’s iconic survival game show set-up, but with a twist. The online community engagement event will commence on October 22, 2021 at 4:00 PM PHT on Galaxy Racer PH’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/GalaxyRacerPH).
Netflix’s Korean-language thriller Squid Game has officially become the streaming giant’s most-watched original series in history, drawing over 111 million fans across the globe since its debut on September 17th. Along with its commercial success, the battle royale show has also gone viral throughout various social media platforms, crossing both cultural and language barriers with ease.
The GXR Pusit Game will feature notable Galaxy Racer content creators such as model and actress Sachzna Laparan, Filipino TikTok star Spencer Serafica, YouTube creators Tukomi, model and Facebook streamer Kristine Santamena, actor and dancer McCoy de Leon, and actress Ayeesha Cervantes.
GXR Pusit Game will be held on Roblox, an online gaming platform and game creation system, involving forty-nine Galaxy Racer content creators from the Philippines with over 180 million social media followers. The last content creator standing after competing in an intense 7-round gauntlet of trending games will win PHP 100,000 (worth USD $2,000) which the Galaxy Racer content creator will award to a chosen worthy fan.
Fans will stand a chance to win the prize money by supporting their favourite content creator. All forty-nine Galaxy Racer’s content creators in the Philippines will be participating. From October 18th to October 21st, fans will be able to comment on the post of the content creator they are rooting for with the hashtag
#GXRPusitGame and an explanation via a story submission on the Galaxy Racer content creator’s post of why they think they are worthy to win the prize money for a second chance at life. The entry period for the contest will close on October 21st at 10:00 AM PHT.
The content creator who wins, will choose the most compelling story amongst their fans’ entries to receive the prize money, which will be announced on the Galaxy Racer PH Facebook livestream.
Fellow participating Galaxy Racer content creator, Janio Ezekiel Cañazares, posted a video of himself earlier this month on TikTok dressed in a green tracksuit, cosplaying one of the characters from Squid Game, Kang Sae-byeok — player number 067 (played by HoYeon Jung). Within two weeks, the video amassed a whopping 66.6 million views and 9.1 million likes.
Mitch Esguerra, Southeast Asian Operations CEO of Galaxy Racer commented, “At Galaxy Racer, we want to make the things that we do, out of this world. With the Squid Game phenomenon of Netflix, we’ve wanted to ride the wave the way we feel would be true to the core concept of the famous series – by ultimately giving a second chance at life to a chosen gamer. We’ve empowered our content creators to make that choice, to pick who is truly deserving, and along the way, show our audiences a new and innovative way of entertainment in the gaming and esports scene. We’ve only just begun, and we at Galaxy Racer are hard at work to give more truly unique virtual experiences to the esports and gaming community.”
Allan Phang, CMO of Galaxy Racer commented, “Galaxy Racer understands the importance of being relevant and authentic to our audience, at the same time taking this opportunity to pay it forward by giving back to the community. As our amazing content creators entertain the community, at the same time we aspire to impact lives positively via esports and gaming. This is just the beginning of many more exciting activations to come and we look forward to organising more successful positive impact activations moving forward.”
