Kristian Ablan, the Presidential Communication Office (PCCO) Assistant Secretary, is currently making waves on social media after making a joke about Bimby Aquino’s gender.
On August 31, Preview.ph shared an article on Facebook about Kris Aquino and her thoughts about her son having a girlfriend anytime soon.
Ablan then commented on the post, writing, “Eh son-in-law?” questioning Bimby’s gender.
This remark from a PCCO Assistant Secretary earned criticism on social media as it was considered unprofessional and inappropriate especially coming from a government official.
Ayos din tayo sir @kris_ablan, ano?
Wala ba kayong SOGIE Seminar sa Malacañang? pic.twitter.com/3IFqkvwlvi

Bakit ganito pa rin tayo mag isip? 2021 na? Oh well birds of the same feather flock together in malacanang. https://t.co/ozqmlgn8wA

Wala ka ring pinagkaiba talaga sa superiors mo @kris_ablan ano?

Jusko, asa pa tayo.

Conduct unbecoming of a government official @kris_ablan.
What the point? Masaya ka na for disrespecting another, much less a minor, who has done nothing against you?

Ablan then apologized on his Twitter, claiming that he did not know his comment was “gender insensitive.”
Hi Twitter. I’ve read your posts about my FB comment. My colleagues aren’t here because they say its toxic. But I stay because this is where the critical thinkers are & we need to listen. I acknowledge that I’ve been gender insensitive w/ the post & will be more mindful next time

Hi Twitter. Apologies if anyone got offended with my reaction on the FB post about Kris Aquino’s bags. No intention to offend.
— Kris Ablan (@kris_ablan) September 2, 2021
However, his apology was not accepted by Netizens and instead pointed that Ablan should apologize to Aquino and her son rather than to the public.

But instead of editing his comment and asking for forgiveness from Aquino and her son, he chose to stand by what he wrote and said he is not sorry for making such a remark.
“A Preview article showed up on my FB feed and I made a comment. That comment got over 400 reactions, and then I got called out on Twitter for being gender insensitive (among others). I apologized there already. Now, I’m not,” he wrote on his Facebook account.
It can be recalled that Ablan was also criticized by Angel Locsin in 2020 when the latter became the target of online trolls.
