On Sunday, September 12, Ate Gay apologized to Vice Ganda through Ogie Diaz’s vlog for dragging the latter’s name in an issue.
The gay comedian also explained why he released the breakdown of financial help he received from his showbiz friends.
“Laging pinagdidikit yung mukha ko at ni Vice Ganda. Nahihiya ako kay Vice. Actually, tumulong si Vice. Sabi ko nga, di ba, maliit at malaking halaga ay tulong.
“Oo, tinulungan ako. Pero nga, ang feeling ko, yung mga namba-bash sa akin, parang feeling nila si Vice ‘yung nagbayad ng bill sa hospital.
“Oo, nahihiya ako sa kanya. Maraming salamat sa kanya dahil sa panahon na nahirapan ako sa hospital, ‘yung naalala ka lang niya, okay na yun. Tumulong pa siya, di ba? Maraming salamat,” said Ate Gay.

Ate Gay disclosed that he received 20k from Vice Ganda in addition to the financial aid of other showbiz personalities during his hospitalization due to toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN).
In a now-deleted tweet, Ate Gay clarified that his sibling who [mostly] contributed to his hospital bills which amounted to 600k.
The comedian reasoned that the bashers who compelled him to disclosed the breakdown of the money he received. He did it to defend himself. A basher that Vice Ganda should have skipped his assistance to Ate Gay.
“Naprovoke lang po ako sa isang fan na sabihan ako na sana di nalang ako tinulungan ni vice sana NAMATAY nalang ako kaya nilabas ko mga amount ng tumulong sa akin.. nagpapasalamat ako kay vice at si ogie diaz ang tulay sa pagsosorry ko kay vice.. masyado lang ako nasaktan sa basher.. sana mapatawad nyo ako .. lalo na mga kaibigan kong tumulong sa akin at sa kapatid ko…” he commented on his Instagram post aired on Friday, September 17.
The It’s Showtime host admitted on Thursday, September 16, that he was hurt when he received harsh comments after he helped his friend, which later on revealed as Ate Gay.
Vice was hurt when some netizens questioned the amount he gave for his friend.
“May natulungan ako. Hindi ko pinagmalaking meron akong natulungan. Pero yung tinulungan ko, sinabi n’yang tinulungan ko s’ya. Tapos nilabas n’ya kung magkano ang tinulong ko sa kanya,” started Vice during the show’s episode.
“Tapos nabasa ko sa mga comments…sabi sa mga comments, ‘gano’n lang pala binigay ni Vice Ganda, 20 thousand lang?
“Napalunok ako, parang ‘pag ako ba yung tumulong dapat may presyo? May ceiling, di ba?
“Na-ano ako… tumulong na ako nang kusa, ayoko ngang magpa-acknowledge kaya ‘di ko sinasabi. Pero yung nilabas yung pangalan ko, tapos inokray pa ako na bakit 20 thousand lang ang binigay, nasaktan ako talaga,” he lamented.
“Parang ‘pag hindi ka tumulong, ang sama-sama mo, ‘pag tumulong ka kekwestyunin ka bakit yun lang ang tinulong mo, [and] that hurts so much.”
In 2019, Vice Ganda told the It’s Showtime audience that Ate Gay was removed from the Tawag ng Tanghalan singing competition due to his comments on social media. The announcement then caused a rift between the two which lasted for a long time.
They recently reconciled with each other.
