Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa, though relatively new in showbiz, stars in the dark, suspense-thriller drama film based on a 1960 Korean film that had a remake in 2010, and was originally titled, Hanyo. Three days prior (Tuesday, September 7) to the premiere of the VivaMax film, The Housemaid (on Friday, September 10), Viva Films held a final digital media conference and was attended by the director (Roman Rerez Jr.) and the three lead stars–Verzosa, Albert Martinez, and Louise delos Reyes.
Verzosa isn’t the only one who transitioned from being a beauty queen to being a serious actress. Perez also directed the former Bininibing Pilipinas-Tourism (2013) Cindy Miranda in the sexy-thriller, Adan (2020). In The Housemaid, Verzosa is Daisy, the hired nanny with a huge salary to take care of Nami, daughter of William (Martinez), a billionaire, and Roxanne (delos Reyes), who is pregnant with twins.
As a beauty queen like anyone who has gone before her, who broke into the entertainment circuit and tackled roles in the films and on television, Verzosa said when she was asked how she wants the viewing public to remember her.
“I really wanna be remembered na isang magaling na aktres. And yun talaga ang goal ko, three or four years ago pag start ko sa Viva.”
That’s how Verzosa told LionHearTV when she was asked, as a beauty queen who crossed over from the pageantry world to the entertainment business–how does she want to make an impact toward the viewing public.
“Gusto ko na malaman nila na seryoso ako rito. Gusto ko talagang maging the best version of myself bilang aktres dito.
“Sana po. Feeling ko naman na isa ito sa mga projects na matatandaan talga nila.”
In a previous article, Verzosa told Perez about her limitations. She had complete trust in the style and process of the filmmaker, who was praised for directing the erotic thriller film Adan back then.
The Housemaid, also stars child actress Elia Ilano who played the young Maya in Ulan, and Jobelyn Manuel, the original Jowable woman ranting on Vincentiments facebook page (before it became a blockbuster movie) along with multi-awarded international actress Jaclyn Jose and Ms. Alma Moreno.
Since the pandemic started, The Housemaid is the first Filipino film to be shown in the theaters of the United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaima, Umm Al Quwain, and Al Ain). Starting September 17, it will be streamed over the entire Middle East and Europe.
Here in the country, it began streaming on September 10 via Vivamax Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Hongkong, and Japan.
The former beauty queen, she first appeared in films like in Panday (2017) as Diwata, in Kasal and Abay Babes (2018) as Eunice and Perla, respectively. On television, she joined the cast of Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Los Bastardos in 2018-19.
