On August 18, 2021, Pinoy music group The Juans shared their thoughts on the benefits and disadvantages of the COVID-19 pandemic to performers and artists.
During the media conference for their single, Dulo, The Juans said the pandemic helped the group focus on creating music.
“For me po in a way naapektuhan na mas nag-improve kasi po sobrang hindi po kami masyadong distracted sa labas na mundo, so mas nakapag-focus po kami sa art. And talaga pong mas nakita namin ‘yung mga parts na pwede pa po naming ma-improve,” said Japs.
However, they admitted that the pandemic affected their livelihood as live music performers.
“Talagang mahirap po para sa lahat ng performers, sa lahat ng mga artists, lalo na kagaya namin. Banda kami talagang bread and butter po namin ang live shows,” Carl admitted.
Thankfully, their management was able to prepare them for the new normal.
“Early on pa lang, ‘yung mga advisers po namin talagang pina-realize at pinatanggap na sa amin na things are going to change for the next two years.
“And, you’re going to have to evolve really fast. You’re going to have to move fast.
“Ang pademyang ito, ito ang panahon para mag-rise up kung sino ‘yung unang makakapag-adjust, kung sino ‘yung unang mag-i-innovate ‘yun ang magsha-shine ngayong pandemya,” Carl continued.
As a result, The Juans is one of the music groups that thrived despite the restrictions of the pandemic.
“Before po mag-pandemic, nakapag-ipon po kami ng pera para makapagpatayo ng isang maliit na studio kung nasaan po tayo ngayon. Ito po ay StudioJuan.
“We really dedicated and poured out our lives into innovating and adjusting in this situation, na paano ba tayo magiging relevant?
“We started booking gigs sa mga brands, and endorsements started coming in,” Carl shared.
Record labels confirmed that despite the lack of live performances, the pandemic gave emerging artists the chance to shine.
The Juans members, including Carl, Japs, RJ, Chael, and Josh, popularized the hugot single, Hindi Tayo Pwede.
Recently, the group dropped the trailer for the short film for their single, Dulo, starring Kokoy De Santos and Krissha Viaje. Dulo premieres on August 20, 6 pm, via the group’s Facebook and YouTube accounts.
