Rachel Alejandro recently scored two special milestones in her illustrious career! First: a return to acting through a teleserye; second: signing up with ABS-CBN’s talent agency, Star Magic which is now co-managing the singer-actress together with her longtime manager, Ms. Girlie Rodis.
“I’m excited to be part of the Star Magic family,” Rachel declares. She is especially grateful to Star Magic head, director Laurenti Dyogi, and ABS-CBN COO, Cory Vidanes, for welcoming her warmly to the Kapamilya network.
Her first assignment as a Star Magic artist is the much-anticipated TV series “The Broken Marriage Vow” produced by Dreamscape Entertainment where she portrays a trophy wife and mother to Sue Ramirez. “The character I play, Nathalia Lucero, is a fun person, the life of the party.” Rachel elaborates, “But even if Nathalia comes off initially as shallow, later on we see that she is also a loving mother. But because she got married and had a child at a very young age, marami siyang ambisyon sa buhay na hindi niya nagawa. She wants her daughter Lexy to have a chance to achieve her goals in life.”
Rachel has praises for Sue. “Napakagaling na artista pala talaga! Napapanood siya ng Lola Nena ko sa mga teleserye. Sinabi nga ni Lola na magaling siya.” At the cast’s table read, Rachel noticed an instant rapport with the younger actress. “Nakita ko na agad yung chemistry naming dalawa,” she says of Sue. “I hope na maganda lumabas sa screen ang aming mother-daughter ‘batuhan.’”
To fully inhabit her character, Rachel embarked on a makeover. She changed her hair color to blonde (“It’s part of the story — believe or not!” says Rachel.), and actively collaborates with director, Connie Macatuno and stylist Jilla Sara on the high fashion look of her character. “Because I’m playing someone who is very figure conscious, I have been eating mostly low-carb meals from my health food business, The Sexy Chef. The camera adds an extra 10 pounds to your shape so I like to shave off around that much from my normal weight,”she explains.
Before the end of the year, Rachel has a music project lined up, which is also for ABS-CBN. “I can’t wait to share it with you all very soon,” she tells her fans.
As far as her business The Sexy Chef goes, Rachel and her sister, Chef Barni Alejandro, are also happy that their Taho Ice Cream is included among the Best 10 Vegan Ice Creams in the Philippines by my-best.ph. The sisters continue to innovate and come up with new products and packages to food enthusiasts. Delivering even during the ECQ, The Sexy Chef offers meal plans for weight management, family-style trays, frozen food and caters virtual meetings.
Rachel is very grateful for these opportunities to entertain people especially nowadays when many of us are staying home for our safety. The feeling she had of being down at the start of the pandemic has now been replaced with possibility and optimism. “Since it may take us quite a bit longer to get back doing live concerts and musicals again, I’m thankful for the chance to shine and share my talent on television in the meantime”, she says.
