Actor-musician Matt Lozano revealed that he thought of quitting showbiz before.
Though he is enjoying blessings now, the Kapuso star shared that he struggled through a tough journey in showbiz.
He took a break from the spotlight for four years because of his weight gain. He admitted that he experienced discrimination in showbiz for being a plus-size guy.
“Yes po. Sobrang hirap dumating ako sa point na ayoko na. Gusto ko nang sumuko sa showbiz. That’s why sinasabi ko kanina tumigil ako sa showbiz because I got depressed. Walang pumi-pick-up sa akin dahil nga tumaba ako” Matt said in an online conference on June 30.
“Nung nagsimula pa lang ako sa showbiz year 2008. Yan ang sinasabi nila sa akin, yung weight ko and sobrang hirap, alam mo yung kahit na alam mo namang binibigay mo yung best mo sa acting, sa singing, pero hindi ako nagugustuhan ng mga tao because of my weight” he added.
Out of many auditionees, Matt bagged the role of Robert “Big Bert” Armstrong in the highly-anticipated GMA Network series, Voltes V: Legacy.
“I was hesitant at first when I heard about the audition for Big Bert. Pero na-realize ko baka ito na pagkatataon na magamit ko katabaan ko kaya sinubukan ko. Thankfully, I got cast, ” he said.
Matt said he feels blessed and thankful for having this opportunity.
He shared, “That’s why I’m very thankful, blessed na mabigyan ako ng ganitong opportunity. Lumalaban lang talaga ako ngayon.”
Matt recently released his self-penned quarantine song Kwarto and surprised his fans with his online music show Spotlight Music Sessions.
Aside from this, he was also unveiled as one of Bench’s newest endorsers. He was featured in the latest campaign for men’s “extended sizes,” which aims to celebrate “more sizes, more choices, for everybody and everybody.”
Lozano gained fame after winning Eat Bulaga’s singing competition Spogify ft. Singing Baes in 2016.
