Due to the limited reach of A2Z, it is not a surprise that the re-air of Hidilyn Diaz’s life story via the drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) did not earn satisfactory ratings.
As she bags the first-ever Olympic gold medal for the Philippines, ABS-CBN paid tribute to the weightlifting champ by replaying her life story on MMK.
The episode was first aired in September 2016, when she won the silver medal in the same competition.
Despite her trending victory, the replay of her life story only earned a 2.7% rating. This rating is understandable because of the limited reach of the A2Z channel.
However, in terms of online views, it performed well. It has almost 1 million views on Youtube, and its trailer on Facebook got 6.7 million views as of writing.
In the said episode, Jane Oineza played Hidilyn. She was joined by other artists including, Sofia Millares, Maricel Morales, Smokey Manaloto, Brace Arquiza, John Vincent Servilla, Hero Angeles, Laisa Comia, Dominic Roque, Monsour del Rosario, Ahron Villena, Mico Aytona, Kokoy de Santos, and Perry Escaño. It was directed by Dado Lumibao and written by Mary Rose Colindres and Arah Jell Badayos.
Hidilyn bagged the first-ever gold medal for the Philippines since the country’s debut in Olympics in 1924.
She reigned supreme against several competitors in the women’s 55 kg category. Diaz even defeated world record holder Liao Qiuyun of China when she lifted a total of 224 kilograms – 127 kg for the clean-and-jerk round and 97 kg in snatch.
