GMA Playlist team shared how they selected the artists under their label. During the sub-label’s launch on August 11, senior manager for music production section, Raquel S. Gacho listed their team’s criteria in selecting artists.
“We concentrated really on our TDME talent rosters. And from that roster. Actually, lahat kasi sila, we worked with them through the years. And we figured na ‘yung mga boses nila need to be heard.
“We find them interesting, ‘yun yung una. And, kung kaya niya kayang kumanta. Tapos ano kaya ‘yung bagay na kanta for the voice and the look he has and ano ‘yung sincerity that can come out of this collaboration.”
Gacho added that fans of the artists would feel surprised once they release the singles under GMA Playlist.
“Yes, kung 12 (artists) ‘yung nandito, 12 times kayong masusurprise. You never heard them in that light before.”
Currently, GMA Playlist has 13 artists under their label.Â
They are Mikee Quintos, Anthony Rosaldo, Crystal Paras, Denise Barbacena, Faith Da Silva, Jennifer Maravilla, Kaloy Tingcungco, Kim De Leon, Lexi Gonzales, Shayne Sava, Mark Herras, Seb Pajarillo, and Arra San Agustin.
Gacho also revealed the label’s future plans for their artists.
“Ang aabangan is the fresh and new take of the 12 young artists on the kind of music that they want to do.
“‘Yung song writing matagal naming pinaplano ‘yan.Â
“We also intend to invite other artists to come and collaborate with our artists.”
GMA Network launched GMA Playlist intending to share fresh sounds with the new generation. However, the said sub-label is different from GMA Network’s music label, GMA Music.
As for the artists, they shared their experience working with the label during the media conference.
“It’s a very collaborative process, what we’re going through, what we’re doing. And mas kami to as artists,” Mikee Quintos said.
Lexi Gonzales shared her thoughts, too, “I want them to see me as someone with a voice, not just someone from Starstruck, someone who performs in AOS, but I want people to see that I am someone who has a voice. Someone who wants to express how she feels.”
“I really love singing talaga dati, hindi lang niya ko talaga love, so sintunado ako, I was getting bullied. And now, they’re helping me. GMA Playlist is with me making my own music,” confessed Kim De Leon.
Meanwhile  Faith Da Silva had this to say, “Excited ako sa lahat na mapakinggan ‘yung lahat ng songs na ire-release ko, hindi lang ako pati ‘yung mga kasama ko dito. Very, very grateful for this opportunity.“
“Ang end goal ko with my singing career is to be like my idols, ‘yung sila ‘yung mga singers na may kantang kilala ng lahat, kinakanta ng lahat, nagbibigay ng inspirasyon sa lahat, pinaghuhugutan nila kapag nalulungkot. Gusto kong maging ganon to be remembered as an icon,” revealed Anthony Rosaldo.
“I’m very honored, and gusto ko lang po take ‘yung chance na ito to thank GMA Network, GMA Playlist, and GMA Artist Center po sa opportunity na binigay sa akin,” Shayne Sava said.
Jennifer Maravilla has one goal in her brand of music, “I want to promote the culture through the music that I am going to be releasing. GMA Playlist has been really helpful with that. Talagang binigyan nila kami ng kalayaan,”
“They (GMA Playlist) accompanied me, and they were there every step of the way, physically and virtually. Sa lahat ng kanta ng ginagawa namin,” shared Crystal Paras.
With much excitement, Denise Barabacena said, “This will be the first time for me to release a song na talagang ako,”Â
For Kaloy Tingcungco, he considered this break as, “I’d like to express myself and be known because I went for something that’s genuine and true to myself.”Â
“I want to people to understand na hindi mo dapat nili-limit ‘yung sarili mo in just one skill,” Seb Pajarillo gave his piece of realization.
